Had an EIGHT HOUR visitation at a funeral home today, for my grandmother.
Happy moments:
*not screwing up too epically as people I didn't know, and those who knew me from my childhood and not vice versa on my part, expressed their sympathy to me over my emaciated, virtually-brain dead grandmother dying
*not bursting out in laughter during the religious ceremony
*not submitting to bowing my head or closing my eyes or saying "amen" during the religious ceremony
*my brother bringing me some pickles on his plate when we were hanging out in the basement/kitchen
(I did not indulge in eating yellow cake, fried apple pie (yes, you read right), fried chicken, or meat and cheese platters on white bread with mayo, washed down with vending machine soft drinks)
*finding some green tea to make in one of the drawers there
*taking a break from the all-day milling-about awkwardly fest to go with my brother to a store down the street to buy me a new bra on my mom's dime (don't ask)
*people saying I look like my grandmother did when she was young
*hearing about my late Uncle Olbert who apparently was, like me, left-handed and "strange, by more than a bit"
*finally getting to go out to eat with my family after the ordeal was over
*the seating hostess admiring my long red hair
*my dad calling me "honey", and telling me to order whatever I wanted
*the busboy awkwardly telling me (and only me) "Urm...you have a good night."
*my brother telling me I'm "scrawny"
*talking with my new beau about all the fun stuff we're gonna do on the Fourth
*him, being a steak-and-potatoes type, agreeing to go with me to a vegan potluck (turns out, it's at the EXACT TIME as my psych class...but the point is, he was actually *excited* to go with me)
I love this thread...I couldn't care less if no one ever reads my posts here- it feels nice to remember all the good things each day.
Sounds like a cool idea for a blog.
