If Canada closes the border I won't have work on Monday, keyword being if.

Just a reminder: under international law, an occupying power has no right of self-defense, and those who are occupied have the right and duty to liberate themselves by any means possible.

Apparently it's good to gargle salt water if you start to get a sore throat. So that salt might come in useful ;)

Garlic milk helps too I hear... haven't asked how my coworker makes it, though. Maybe she lets the garlic soak in the milk? I need to ask her next week if we still get to go to work...

This is way worse than SARS or the other viruses. The only thing one could compare it to in terms of economic and social upheaval is the foot and mouth plague in the UK years ago. So many people lost their businesses. You couldn't enter any town without swabbing the bottom of your shoes, and animals were not exempt! 8O

On the bright side, the streets of my city are far less polluted than normal, the canals of Venice are as clean as they were when the old James Bond movie was filmed there in the 60s (live fish in the water!) because of a lack of gondolas and tourists, and - do I have to say it on an Aspie site - everywhere I go, surfaces are gleaming, sparkling, shining, clean smells permeate the air, people wear masks and take care not to cough around me and public transport is a dream! I wish life could always be this clean and relatively quiet!

I am concerned about the effects of this virus on my loved ones - many suffer from asthma and are smokers. But we practise eating garlic, getting our vitamin C, and we also burn resin incense which kills 99% of pathogens and keeps rooms disinfected for up to 30 days (and is the only thing that can effectively clean indoor air, apparently). I get really worried when I see people using hand sanitisers and being completely oblivious to the tried and tested methods of air purification which have been around for thousands of years. Even more pissed when I hear they're shutting down the churches...and the ones that burn incense are probably the only places that are safe to be in! Certainly safer than my local supermarket tonight: hoards of people all bumping shoulders, not keeping apart, less than 1 in 50 wearing a mask and people coughing all around me... Seriously.

Sorry for the rant. Here's something to pick up the mood a little. I love this movie and the song that starts at 2:30... Our cities are about as deserted as this guy's, but at least this isn't a zombie apocalypse.

No, no, you've got it all wrong. You eat the soap to kill the virus and use the noodles to make chicken soup for the people who have blown their colons wrong side out that way.

Jokes aside for the briefest moment, I think they are buying T.P. because they are worried about getting diarrhea from the virus. You can get diarrhea from a lot of things but there are, of course, substitutes.

Honestly, I think you're much more likely to get diarrhea (or any other form of digestive upset) from worrying about COVID-19 than from the virus itself. In all the news I've heard about it, I've never heard any digestive symptoms mentioned, but anxiety, stress, etc. can often upset the digestive system.

Read this please:
https://news.yahoo.com/study-american-j ... 00171.html

Quote:
Most patients with COVID-19 present with typical respiratory symptoms and signs. However, early experience with the outbreak in Wuhan, China revealed that many patients experienced digestive symptoms as their chief complaint. "Clinicians must bear in mind that digestive symptoms, such as diarrhea, may be a presenting feature of COVID-19, and that the index of suspicion may need to be raised earlier in these cases rather than waiting for respiratory symptoms to emerge," write the authors.

"In this study, COVID-19 patients with digestive symptoms have a worse clinical outcome and higher risk of mortality compared to those without digestive symptoms, emphasizing the importance of including symptoms like diarrhea to suspect COVID-19 early in the disease course before respiratory symptoms develop," said Brennan M.R. Spiegel, MD, MSHS, FACG, Co-Editor-in-Chief of The American Journal of Gastroenterology. "This may lead to earlier diagnosis of COVID-19, which can lead to earlier treatment and more expeditious quarantine to minimize transmission from people who otherwise remain undiagnosed."

Humans, eh?

No T.P.? Use the tissues. An arse in need deserves Puffs indeed.

For what it's worth kleenxes are more likely to clog your plumbing system than TP.

I know we live in scary times, but this isn't our first rodeo with such a contagious disease. And given how medicine has advanced in a century, I do believe WE WILL get through this.
