Oh I have been trying to find a video that matches.
Where I was it was a mixed bag - folk and ballroom and a bit of pop. Waltzes and foxtrots and then finish up with say a jive (but that was advanced for me) or a line dance. Or some weeks a few more traditional céilí dances. But my teacher was mostly just trying to get me to waltz well
Oh right and where on earth do you do all that then
Rural Irish towns often still have a community ballroom. And the GAA organises a lot.
The best stuff I've been to was at pubs, but not pubs you'd guess were pubs. They look like ordinary houses and someone has to take you in, and then there is music and dancing and an insane amount of alcohol.
My mate had a céilí space set up in the yard (just some boards set down) but I moved before we used it.
I don't know what happens in Dublin. I think there are pop-up céilí and presumably pubs that aren't overrun with tourists... I'm sure there are classes but they might be more structured here and that seems like less fun.

When I hear this at the end of a Red Dwarf episode, I close my my eyes and mouth the words with enthusiasm. Although, I don't know the words, except for the "Fun fun fun." However, when I hear it, I know where the words are going, at least with the first first. The second verse I just know the feel and the sound.
It is a fantastic song, to be fair
My brother and I grew up mostly with these shows: Red Dwarf, The Young Ones, The Goodies, and Do Not Adjust Your Set / Monty Python.
I liked The Young Ones best. He liked The Goodies. That was probably where our paths diverged.
