I looked up the Saddam execution video and watched it. It didn't look like much of anything. Maybe I saw an edited version? I read that there was some controversy about taunting between him and the executioners, but the video didn't have subtitles.

The second illegal recording has audio. People in the execution chamber were yelling "To Hell!!" among other things.

The first video shows Saddam close-up at the top of the gallows while the second illegal one is shot from far away at the bottom of the gallows.

The death of Elvis wasn't really all that shocking in retrospect , I'm amazed he lasted until '77.....can you imagine touring constantly for 7-8 yrs & like 20 pills a day.....it's just.....totally insane & as un-normal as it can be  8O

Bruce Lee's death wasn't all that shocking either.....he'd been quite thin the last 3 months of his life & more and more violent mood swings.

I'll always believe that Raymond Chow let him die by dragging out the time before calling an ambulance & he knew damn well that something was wrong as he'd be present 2 months earlier where Lee nearly died due to poisoning......the motif : money !

He knew that Lee would leave Hong Kong for good and went to the Triads with this info...needless to say it is very likely the Triads had had enough of Lee's nonchalance.....from there it isn't hard to imagine what could happen next

^I heard voices in the background but they didn't sound English. The quality wasn't all that great but I did get a good look at Saddam's face before it was done.

Princess Diana. I even called my mother long distance to tell her the news. Yeah, she has her own TV but I thought I'd be the first to break it to her. It's important to be first.

My near-death experience shocked everyone (including me).

What did you experience, if it isn't too personal for you to say? I don't remember much of mine. My mom said that when I woke up from surgery I was talking about interacting with different people while I was out. The only thing I can remember is a feeling of "what the hell, it's still good" Since then I have pretty much lost my fear of death and my reactions to other people's deaths is usually delayed and blunted. I'm not sure that the experience really proves anything, though, now that I have acquired a scientific way of thinking.

I just remember taking the pills and feeling them enter my system. It felt as if my body was shutting down and I was thinking "when will it happen?", "when will I die?"

^I was afraid to ask the same question. I thought it might be too personal. I had situations where I wouldn't say it was near death but it definitely felt like doom. I had been hospitalized many times for ODing on purpose or by stupidity which was sometimes drinking and pills. The feeling I would get was the sensation of icey chills and numbness probably from the stuff. I had the opposite feeling of oh no, I shouldn't have done it. It used to be the same pattern all the time. I don't think I'd want to go through that again.

I hope you're doing OK Nico, since that happened?
One thing about suicide is once you've successfully done it, you can't go back and change it.

I was okay for about 2 weeks afterwards, but now I'm back where I started and feel like nothing again.

John Candy's death really bugged me..

I remember hearing it on the way home from school when I was fourteen and thinking how awesome a comedian he was and how said I was going to be to never see a movie of his again..

Reading the Aspie Comedians thread, I was reminded that I was pretty shocked when Mitch Hedberg died.

What made it worse was that everyone was so preoccupied with the Pope being on his deathbed, that Mitch's death got hardly any attention at all... (no offense to the Pope, of course) I don't even think the Daily Show gave him a tribute.

Well, when Amy Vanderbilt committed suicide by jumping out a window, I was shocked. How uncouth.
