I haven't had enough of them to comment but I am sure it is similar, just that the spices will be different. Black pudding tastes less spicy than white pudding, and I do believe there is a much spicier variant of white pudding that is a local food of Devon in the south-west of England.
No, in the 19th century the area (around South Staffordshire and to the north and west of Birmingham) had appalling air quality - the sky being black - as an effect of the Industrial Revolution. The air was black in those days which is how the conurbation got its moniker.

Well, it's not huge. It's just a slice. White, black and red pudding can be bought in patties - that look like burgers - also. I know because I've had one of them. And black puddings are either sold as sausages or in slices.

They're not common in the UK at all. White pudding is only really commonplace in Scotland and on the island of Ireland. Burgers are just a variation on a theme; I bought my black pudding burgers from a farmers' market.

As posted last night, I did make it to the place I was planning to go to - Brockholes Nature Reserve, just south of Preston. Here's the start of some of the photos from that trip, To be honest the place feels a bit unfinished as quite a few of the buildings on the complex lie empty but it's a relatively cheap day out:

Some more photos, this time from the Activity Centre of the nature reserve. Brockholes bills itself as being a 'sustainable' and 'green' attraction. The Activity Centre is full of lots of bits of information as to how it goes about achieving that aim.

It looks interesting Tep. Can you drop a link of the location on google maps or something in a comment so I can see where exactly it's located? Food looks good. I think I would of liked to tried your Mum's plate. I've never had tuna fish with a baked potatoe. It looks tastey.
