Ruled out by the school or by choice?

Most of them I didn't really like, but some of them either don't have single rooms for freshmen or their own dining hall. I really liked Random Hall, but its location is... well... random.

Perhaps, you would consider using a bicycle?

I'll have to get a bicycle anyways. Random Hall is north of campus, and the closest dining hall is at Simmons, which is to the west of Random. Then I'd have to ride my bike to Simmons for breakfast, and then catch a Tech shuttle to class. That's too much fuss for a lazy person like me.

Innovations such as those that make the school famous, perhaps?

The only thing I can think of are Tech shuttles, and unfortunately there are no devices that can get you to class faster. They don't even run on weekends.

Of course, I could always go and buy food from the store, but that would require cooking, in which I have pitifully little skill. And I don't want to eat Subway all year.

Actually, no one really knows why it's called "Next House". There are two possible explanations:
1. After New House was built, they decided to build another house next to it, so it's NEXT to New House.
2. It's always the NEXT dorm over, because it's on the end of the sidewalk.

And now some fun facts:
- There is a lounge there called the Tastefully Furnished Lounge (TFL). It was named before it had any furniture in it.
- Next House is modeled after Sir Isaac Newton's right bicep. (Just kidding, although it does have a strange shape.)
- It is known as the "Asian dorm". I can see why.
- There is a huge printer called the "Tree Eater".

Nope, but I'm sure the media lab has one. Unfortunately, the media lab is an ultra-secret place that almost no one is allowed inside.
