Yes, I went last November and enjoyed it very much. It is very much like Russia without the edge: Visa-free travel and the police don't seem to harrass western tourists for bribes nearly as often (practically a daily occurance in Russia). The hotels are also an excellent value - I had a two-
floor suite in Odessa for less than half of what I paid for a tiny room in New York city a couple of weeks ago.
Unbelievably tragic history though - the got the worst of WWII (in both directions), Stalin's genocide in the 30's (which is why no one in Ukraine apparently speaks Ukrainian), the holocaust (eg the Babi Yar massacre), Chernobyl, etc...
I intend to go back and tour the Crimean peninsula and Chernobyl in the not-too-distant future.
