I noticed some in the audience were smirking, which is rude. I have heard these Ideas in other books, one of which says we are farmed by entities who feed off our negative energies. I think it was the Castaneda books and also possibly the Seth books. Interesting stuff.

There's a documentary on YouTube about Dick (I can't remember which one – there are several) which covers this speech, and Dick's wife at the time said that the people in the audience were laughing because they thought he was either crazy or joking.

I was born in 1983, so it's hard for me to imagine just how bizarre his ideas must have seemed back in the 50s, 60s, and 70s when he was writing. These days his fiction is coming more and more true every day, and filmmakers have been ripping him off blind ever since he died.
