I wonder if they'll be amenable to a fat Northern wastrel with a penchant for eating eastern European food in a terribly uncouth fashion?

Grisha: Word to the wise, mate. Can you get yourself a Flickr account? It's only £15 a year and you can have your photos searchable and you can link to them here to the hi-res copy. Much better, mate. You seem to have more than 200 photos on there so if you take a lot of photos it's worth the cost.

That sounds like a good idea, I'll have to finally do that...

UPDATE: I just upgraded my account, some interesting photos from a trip to Volgograd, Russia (AKA "Stalingrad") are now visible. It was actually an expedition to an old battlefield to search for the remains of Soviet MIAs from the battle of Stalingrad. We didn't find any remains ourselves but there were fragments of human bones and teeth scattered everywhere. We also dug up what turned out to be a German anti-aircraft site. Some of the photos are of relics my comrades have collected over the years.

Grisha: do you see the "share" button on the top there? When you've clicked that, look for the BBCode option and paste that text in. :)

Oh, and you are going to start posting the full-size photos aren't you? Not much point having an account unless you're either posting the full-size images for posterity or using it as an avenue to promote your professional photography.

I just like to be able to exceed the 200 photo limit, that's good enough for me right now...

I love these. :) Sounds like a nice trip. I'm thinking about renting an apt/flat in L'viv, Ukraine. Have you any photos of the large Mother Russia statue in Volgograd? I'm in love with her.

Yes, I've been to Mamaev many times, I haven't got any photos uploaded to Flickr right now though. My ex-wife was from Volgograd, I was married there...

Ooo... you do. I will look forward to seeing them one day when you get the chance to upload them. :)

That's really cool, Grisha. I got the impression you had married a Russian lady at one time. I'm half Russian Jewish, I look Russian but not drop dead sexy gorgeous Russian, just average Russian.

I've never been there yet but I'm really fascinated with Russia and Russians and I would love to see any photos of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and any former Soviet Countries, that you would like to share. :)

Whereabouts are you from? (Also, if you're interested in photos from the CIS states, just look on Flickr.)

Can you find the Aspie in this picture?

Statue outside the Volgograd train station - notice it depicts the Red Army during the civil war. Stalin played a significant role in defense of the city during that conflict which caused the city to be renamed "Stalingrad"

I'll post more some day, hope you find them interesting...
