There are several Nintendo games where characters in the Japanese versions do the gesture that is seen as telling someone "up yours", and is considered by some western people as offensive as giving the finger, so it was changed or removed in the English versions. In Japan, however, it is a gesture of strength and confidence. Also the woman on that "We Can Do It!" WW2 propaganda poster is making a similar gesture and no one seems to mind it.

Also the crossing your fingers gesture, which is something people in Canada and the US normally do for good luck, is seen as an offensive gesture for female anatomy in Vietnam.

And holding up two fingers with the back of one's hand facing forwards is not seen as the sign for peace or victory but is offensive in the UK.

What's perfectly fine in one country is completely wrong in another. I heard quite often as a kid that the only way to do something is either the right way or the wrong way, and of course there's my aspie black-and-white way of thinking, but there seems to be no right or wrong way to do many things, but what is right to one culture is wrong to another and your always at risk of offending someone no matter what. The world is scary. 8O

It makes me want to facepalm really hard. At least I'm sure that gesture is fairly universally acceptable.

I've learned that often you might come across women in various computer games, no not characters but people playing the games themselves..

Î've learned that, despite all the differences, people are all the same: we all crave love and acceptance :)

I've learned that I'm not as stupid as some people in my life have made me out to be or wanted me to appear.

Yay! That’s a good thing.

Some frenemies always make me appear stupid so I know how it feels. I have learnt to fight back for my self-respect and it feels grreatt!

Haha that’s okay. PJ is my name and scrab is short for scrabble.

I didn’t give my username much thought when I registered here I used my words-with-friends username.

On a daily average, three thousand Americans will smoke marijuana for the first time.

I've learned that new diagnostic study indicates that even drinking small amounts of alcohol on a daily basis is bad for you, including wine. Honestly, I've not had any wine since 2001 since, I now have medical condition which would make such difficult as well, taking medications would cause adverse side effects.

If you would have bought an iPhone in 1991, part by part, it would have cost you $3.5 million.

Today is National Coming Out Day!
Congrats to everyone in the LGBT+ community who is brave enough to show the world who they really are. You should never be scared to love who you love

(I would say sorry if this offends anyone, but Im not really cause it shouldnt offend anyone. Gay people are people too!)

I can cook up a really good supper in just 20 minutes if I put my mind and my heart into it.

I've learned that computer parts are the things that are constantly being update, where unless you have tons of money, will you be able to keep up with the cutting edge technology, well from the standpoint of someone having the most powerful components in the world, which in my case, I'd never be able to afford.

In medieval times, European teenagers would be sent away to live and work in someone else's home.

I learned that I spelled panorama wrong.
I spelled it panarama. Then I saw on YouTube a band called Gawvi had an (I think) album that just came out called Panorama.
