The whole island is a prison, so there doesn't live anyone out there that are not a part of that system. Also I think Bastøy, which is the name of the island is not the first prisen you come to. I remember my brother had spent some time in regular prisen first, before he applied to go there. I found a couple of links that provides more information about the prison system in Norway. I think you can trust these links, but I haven't read through them completly.

I don't know. I havn't reflected much about it, and can't remember anything spesific we learned about it in school either. My favorite subjects in school was science and mathematics.
