Things I Don't Get
Someone made a big deal out of me leaving once, without my permission. They made a thread which morphed into two or possibly even three threads, with people trying to assign motive to my departure. I felt like a circus side show because I became the subject of a lot of gossip.
There were a lot of kind comments in the first thread so I felt awkward to complain about it, but even the nice posts made me uncomfortable. The whole thing gave an impression I was asking for attention or trying to be dramatic. I'd much rather slink away quietly, which is what I'd intended to do in the first place.
I don't get why the other person felt it was OK to do this.

Yes, for sure they do. They want people to beg them to stay, or something.

I've given up trying to understand why people do things, I tend to just say 'people are weird' to myself and move on

If I made an announcement it would be harder for me to come back in a weak moment. I'd feel ridiculous and that might be enough to stop me restarting an old habit.
But generally yeah, I'm a slip out of the side door person.
I think I've probably made announcements like that in the past but it must have been when I was very new online and not very confident or something, I dunno.

If I made a thread saying I was storming out because my feelings were hurt I'm pretty sure the responses would be good, f**k off.

Because most newer cars are better for both compliance and road-handing compared to older ones. They don't need a huge sidewall in order to have compliance.
Platforms have become much, much stiffer than back in the day, by which I mean the structure the suspension is mounted to is much stiffer. Because of this, geometry remains consistent. Because of that, the suspension can be tuned for more compliance because there's less worry about the geometry changing because of chassis deformation.
Newer cars can't count on the sidewalls or chassis to absorb as much shock as in the past, but it barely matters in a practical sense. They'll just install moderately stiff dampers and soft springs because the geometry can be counted on working through it's entire range - the end result is a relatively soft car compared to a few decades ago.
If you want a luxury car that rides like a cloud, look to China because the rest of the world is interested in sports sedans.
i think people have better, younger, more shock-absorbing spinal and hip joints than this ol' geezer does. i rode in a late model mazda with those rubber band tires [40 series] and big wheels, and i could feel, sharply, every single bump on a highway that felt smooth as glass while riding in a toyota sienna with standard wheels/tires, 65 series rubber.
All I can say is, the the smaller sidewalls on the tires aren't at fault.
There's a number of components besides tires that contribute to how compliant a car rides and if the tires provide less dampening that can be compensated for elsewhere (like with different damper rates).
I'd be willing to bet the difference comes down to that Mazda tends to tune their suspension to be sporty meanwhile the Sienna is a >4000lb minivan with zero sporting pretensions. The Mazda weighs less, so it's going to get jostled more by bumps, but it's almost certainly tuned with an emphasis on road-holding rather than pretending it's a luxury barge.
Mazda positions itself as a sporty brand despite lacking a sports car at the moment, that means the 3 and 6 have to be among the best in their class for handling. They're going to trade some amount of compliance if it makes the car corner better. Even their crossovers try to pretend like they're relatively sporty, so it's something they do across their entire line-up.
It's not like a 3 or 6 is going to be accepted as a luxury barge, so there's no point trying to tune it's suspension like one. Further, luxury barges don't sell outside of China, even Americans don't like them anymore (otherwise Cadillac would still sell them instead of sports sedans).
It would make poor business sense to sell a car that struggles at pretending to be a the sort of car no one wants to own anymore when that same car can be itself and succeed.

and that is why i much prefer older cars. they don't try to be sporty, but comfortable instead.

You mean Camaros and Fairlady Zs didn't really exist?

I'm pretty sure there's two old sporty cars sitting in my car-hole.
The "garage"? Hey fellas, the "garage"! Well, ooh la di da, Mr. French Man.
