Suspected, but I don't plan on getting her evaluated until she's in school... *if* it poses a problem.

Really? So you just would rather she never knows?

I hadn't read up to that point when I posted. Those things eat dead whales at the bottom of the ocean along with other dead animals. They grow to like half a meter or something.

i think she'd just rather not raise the alarm until she knows for certain whether she even has it. Or if she does have it, whether it's serious enough to be a problem.

if she does have it and is high-functioning enough that it isn't really an issue, then it'd prolly be better for the child not to burden her with with the stigma of an unnecessary diagnosis and consequential expectations and stereotypes. The power of suggestion can be strong.

Yeah, that makes sense. I think I just kind of assumed no diagnosis meant not wanting to know. I forgot they're hard to get. :P

That's exactly it.

The only reason to get a diagnosis is to get the services needed. If services aren't needed, then a diagnosis could potentially weigh her down.

actually, they're not necessarily all that hard to get, depending on where you live, and where you go.
Like mine was easy enough to get. I've been diagnosed by a couple of different doctors, and a psychologist.
Doctor at the navy hospital recognized it in me when i was young. So i got diagnosed then.

Also when i tried to join the navy and got booted out, they wanted to confirm my Aspergers as well, so they had me see a psychologist or whatever they're called to diagnose me yet again before they booted me out for having it.

Then they had to get me diagnosed again at the local health clinic to qualify for disability benefits, because they didn't trust my medical records i guess.

these diagnoses didn't cost me a dime.

It would most likely cost me to get myself diagnosed. And my husband isn't exactly supportive. He even questions the things that have been officially diagnosed and confirmed several times.

He thinks I'm being paranoid about the kids. Most people that know about ASD and know my kids think I'm not worrying enough.

Actually... no. That's part of the problem. If he admitted there was something different about me, he would have to admit it about himself.

Gah... I don't remember but it's hard to find someone qualified in the first place.
