My Designer Clothes better come from plus-sized women. I only want to get down to 175 lbs.

Heh thanks. I used to own an Giulia step-nose GT, but I had to give it up (no time to fix it myself, not enough money to pay someone else to do it). It had Dellorto carbs and high lift cams, and the front silencer box had gone missing somewhere. It's now owned by a chap in Durham and appears in print every so often. Girlfriends come and go, but I really miss that car...

A couple more suggestions:

Lancia Stratos.

English Electric Lightning. 8) :D
Once described by a Pilot I know as "two bloody great engines with a seat on the top".

Alfa 33 track day car. I love the Alfa boxer engine, as found in the Sud, the 33 and early 146s. Unfortunately the Suds and 33s rusted to dust and the 146 had fuel injection and catalytic converters and they deadened the sound. So I'd like either a racing 33 or a 146 with a straight through exhaust and carbs. I daresay no-one has a clue what I'm talking about, but the sound of my 33 Cloverleaf on the overrun still rings in my ears..... WHUMMM!! ! pting ting ting.... *GIGGLES MANICALLY*

There's a difference, isn't there, between the "best" things and the things which are the most impressive, or the most fun. With aeroplanes, the best displays I've ever seen were with Lightnings, F-15 Eagles, and a Mirage with a very enthusiastic pilot. They aren't the best planes in the world, but they create the most impressive spectacle. Sometimes it's possible to be TOO efficient, and that's no fun.

My friend had a 600cc Jap bike of some form (I think it was a Kawasaki), and his girlfriend had a 750cc Ducati. He said the Jap bike was faster but if he rode the Ducati people smiled and let him out at road junctions.

I've been racking my brains to think of a French car I like. The Renault Clio Williams was cool, and the GTV6 (not sure about the name - underrated mid engined 1990s V6 from Renault). There was also a small company whose name escapes me who made lovely sports cars in the Lotus Esprit mould.

Have to disagree with you about Citroens, and also the GT6. My old flat-mate had a GT6 and it was very quick in a straight line but awful on corners, and postively scary in the wet. I don't mind the back end wobbling around under power, but I'm not keen on the front end doing its own thing on a straight road. The Giulia had less power but it could be driven with more confidence - it made the GT6 feel like a tractor.

Lotus 7? Hmmm.... Don't Caterham do a V8 version now? :D

A close friend. I don't have one. I'd be cool if I had more than one, though.
