As Henbane is my witness, she will vouch for me that I am not making up words. "Spag bol" is British slang for spaghetti bolognese.

Also, 'butty' is northern English for sandwich, in this case a very informal, impromptu version over dinner, preferably devoured in huge mouthfuls.

No, he's not making words up.

Although I've never actually eaten a spag bol butty. I have eaten many butties, and lots of spag bol in my time tho.

Chip butties are good.

That was always a speciality of my brother.

What about a curry butty, Henbane?

And, yes, chip butties are where it's at. Amerivcans will never understand this.

Yep, that's Theo. The youngest of my three cats. He's certifiable.

He's a beautiful cat. Is he a Chantilly or Northwestern Tiffany (not to be confused with the English Tiffany)?

Oh, and a bottle of "Malta Guinness", a non-alcoholic malt drink produced from Guinness extract. Imported from Nigeria and bought in the tiniest little African shop I have ever seen - this was about the only genuinely African thing in it!

Image

It was the nicest malt drink I have ever had, and certainly the most palatable as all the other ones I had I could never finish. Not bad at all. £1 for a 330ml glass bottle.

Yesterday I attended the Apple & Fruit Weekend at Beetham Nurseries in Beetham, near Milnthorpe in south Cumbria. They had lots and lots of different varieties of English apples to taste and also to buy.

Here's some of the photos that I took there:

Various varieties of apples on the apple stand:

Elstar apples:

Holstein and Idared apples:

English Bramley apples for sale:

And here one can buy Crispin apples:

More photos from the day coming soon.
