I read in the paper last weekend that an autistic young man in the city I live in has become an "internet sensation" because of his ability to predict the weather.

It's good to know at least one autistic person in the news is being shown in a positive light.

There was another young man here that was on the news down here when he very accurately drew a panoramic view of the downtown area all based what he remembered from one helicopter ride he took while visiting here for the first time.

Hmm... at this point, I think my hesitance of accepting the potential of being an aspie comes from a feeling that I'm either trivializing or even making a mockery of the disorder for even considering it. Something I came to realize just on my behavior for the past week.

I feel lately that WP is giving me the message that the things I'm good at or know a lot about are worthless, and that unless such things get me a real job or a spouse and family then they're not worth it at all in the eyes of the world, and that when the dreaded day comes they force autistic people into the gas chambers I should just *dive* right in. :(

I feel like that a little, on down days, but I ultimately don't care enough about those sorts of jobs or society. Maybe I'll go build fjords for a living on a distant planet.

The only vein?
So blood doesn't flow through the rest of your body?

I often have the impression that many people try to sound like they know what they're talking about, just to seem smart, but then seem very silly when they mess up.

A lot of characters in my books consider memories and identity based thereof to be very important, only to find out the opposite during their journey.

Memories are actually proven to be very unreliable.
I read a book called "The Memory Illusion" where they implanted false memories in test subjects by suggestion and they couldn't tell which were their own memories and which ones were implanted. 8O
We adopt memories. 8O
