Slept in. Feeling manic and disorganised because of all the lamb feeding, running up and down the hill with bottles of milk. To add to the confusion, there is now a newborn added to the flock, which makes 5. We saw her walking around the paddock, howling yesterday, her mother gone. I called her Annie because she looked all alone...

She is small and her eyes havent opened properly yet so she keeps walking into things and getting her head stuck in places...

This now means that I have 7 seperate feeds per day, plus constant defrosting of frozen milk. It is supposed to be my day off :? anyway they are all worth slaving over... :)

A friend of the family is a retired geology professor with a small sheep farm. He had an orphaned lamb once and when another ewe birthed he thought quickly and rubbed the afterbirth all over the orphaned lamb. It worked and the new mother accepted it as her own.

I guess we could try that. We have managed to rehome one lamb with a mother who had lost all her lambs. We are feeding the lambs goat milk at the moment, and amusingly, the goat bleats at them through the fence.. she thinks they are hers because they smell like her.

Awe, she sounds so sweet. I have never had sheep but I did have goats once. I love baby animals. I know it's a whole lot of working taking care of them all. I can imagine how exhausting it is. It's great they have someone as dedicated as you to care for them.

I've been pacing myself here, today. I like to do that, the day after a WP meltdown.

thanks Taupey for the compliment.. I guess I am dedicated, though it isnt really my farm or my sheep, I am staying here. but, I do love baby animals so I am very attached to them already... Im a bit worried about Annie, she has hurt her leg, she seems very accident prone. We now have a new lamb, Doll, so that is 6 now... it is pretty exhausting... but fun to feed them.

We are a band of states, native to our soil.
Fighting for our liberty with blood and toil.
And when we were threatened
The cry rose near and far
Hurrah for our flag that bears a Golden Star!

Hurrah! Hurrah!
For Our blood hurrah!
Hurrah for our flag that bears the shining golden star!

Now here's to the brave states
In which we sealed our fate
Spurred by their example
Now our other states prepare
to hoist high the flag that bears a golden star.

Hurrah! Hurrah!
For our blood hurrah!
Hurrah for our flag that bears a golden star!

Then here's to our Republic, strong we are and brave.
Like patriots we'll fight, our heritage to save
Than rather submit to shame, die we would prefer.
So cheer for the flag that bears the golden star!

Hurrah! Hurrah!
For our blood hurrah!
Hurrah for the flag that bears a golden star!
