Yawn forcefully and requently. I've done this on all the flights that I've taken, and some of the road trips I've taken through mountains.

If you can move your jaw in a way to open the eustacheon tubes-like yawning without opening your mouth-that works for most people. As a pilot, it works well.

Swallowing and yawning help, but they don't get rid of the problem, at least for me. Last time I flew, I lost hearing in my right ear for several hours. My grandfather's eardrum actually burst on a plane a long time ago.

I wonder if you might have a eustacheon tube restriction or blockage? Have you seen an ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) doctor? They may be able to help rectify that problem.
