I've been watching cartoons my whole life and I'm quite smart.

Correction: Trash culture makes you stupid.

It all depends on what you watch. News and documentaries are good for you, whereas soaps and reality TV are bound to decrease your intelligence.

Mute the f**k out of adverts all you like, though.

as i said above, i dissagree. most docus are just as bad as any other show. theyre not about knowledge.

if you watch a tv-docu about a topic you KNOW, then you notice. its all horribly dated, sensationalistic and blown out of proportion, with one purpose only: to sell

advertisements are truly evil tho...

You're probably watching the wrong sorts of documentaries. The BBC and documentary channels usually put on great documentaries.

Not all documentaries are good, no. Channel 4 and Sky One have a reputation for showing sensationalist stuff. Yet there is plenty of educational material too. Some really are eye-opening, also. Not sensational.

but theyre a minority

especially next to entire channels dedicating themselves to documentary, and which still suck
such as discovery channel
animal planet :'(
i have yet to see a REAL animal documentary on animal planet...
sick dog this animal police that, morons in khakis everywhere

i miss steve tho. but he was a pioneer. pioneers can afford to be annoying, cus its their thing. making it into a whole genre was the mistake.

now im thinking about that old nat geo special "lions and hyenas, eternal enemies" i had it, spanish dub, but the voice was SO macho and awesome
some friend borrowed, and lost it... had it since i was little
:(
THAT was a docu!

That reminds me of a bit of a poem by Iain Crichton Smith that is about television:

Said Plato -
"We are tied in a cave" -
that is, the TV.

Yes, but if you can see the trap, you are probably immune.

I'll watch PBS material if it interests me.

Commercial TV is definitely worthless. I haven't watched it since 2001. Even before that, I knew enough to mute the commercials.

Depends on what you watch.

I watch mostly scripted fiction shows and I've learned more about proper story-telling and story analysis from watching various scripted dramas and comedies than I would in the classroom. I owe several shows (even The Simpsons) to helping me pass several English classes.

Yeah, I know I should be like...reading a book. I cringe from your slap! :P

Reality TV makes you REALLY STUPID, hence my signature!

The only shows I like are anything on PBS,
but ABC, CBS and NBC show some good stuff once in a while.

Why can't reality TV go away?
