Random Opinion about Star Trek
well, being all the events happening in an alternative timeline was a way for the writers to have some liberty in the story and not screw up with canon, but I do have a problem, old Spock's fate, and the way he acted didn't seem that much vulcan, I honestly would prefer to ignore the story, though the visual effects were great, I think they didn't screw up with the continuity of Star Trek history but they did so with Spock.
......they have some psychological need to hover around the 22nd to 23rd centuries and redo everything they can.
well, I think writers want to do things more contemporary, to go along with what happens today or what people would identify more, I think something like that, which is probably why most Hollywood stuff suck, I noticed few people, although not so much of fans, may find the utopic 24th century era to be boring and would prefer a depiction of a society closed to ours. I as well, would rather watch stories related to the late 24 century or beyond.

Probably because 3 out of 4 rockets didn't make it off the launchpad during the early space race.
Edit: not precisely so, but the chance of a successful launch was not a certainty.
Is it just me, or is the replacement of the Next Generation timeline an annoyance to others as well?
WORST MOVIE EVER!! !! ! if they make another like that I'll never watch it again!
and I'm a huge star trek fan. at least when it comes to voyager. But I love star trek in general. But this movie was more for star wars fans then star trek.
No moral values and no thought when into it. It was just an action movie.
Actually, they knocked off both Romulus and Vulcan (maybe JJ has a phobia about pointy ears...
It was a good film, but it had some very strange ideas. If you want the particulars of how big (or not) the Enterprise in this movie is, go to Ex Astris Scientia, which has more than you'd ever want to know about how precisely big (I think they figured out about 729', then revised it to around 300+'. It's started almost bigger than the Enterprise E...
I've heard they're trying to write # 12 (even number, maybe it will be better for some...
, I think I even heard that Harry Mudd might make an appearance...![]()
No moral values? It started off with Kirk's father giving his life to save his crew, and there was an awful lot of self sacrifice involved.
Also, old spock didn't act as vulcan as he did in the series... but that's because he's old, he's been through a lot... and he once shared a skull with McCoy. That's bound to mess you up.
I could imagine Spock in this universe going darker than original Spock... after all, he now knows that ultimately he was responsible for the death of his world, and his mother. That's a lot of trauma for a young man.
I've only seen it once, but I'll definitely watch it again, see what other gems I get.
This was the best Star Trek movie since First Contact, says I. It gave the franchise the kick in the pants it had needed for a long while now, since it had been growing increasingly flabby and aimless, with the premature death of Enterprise showing that audiences weren't in the mood for bog-standard Trek any more, and the wretched Nemesis breaking the rule about even-numbered Trek films being good (just as this film broke the tendency for odd-numbered Trek films to be dreadful).
Not to mention that the characters were all perfect - Karl Urban as Dr McCoy was particularly brilliant (seriously, I thought he'd been possessed by DeForest Kelley), and Chris Pine gave us the classic spirit and swagger of James Tiberius Kirk without slipping into Shatner-parody - although there is one moment at the end (his utterance of one simple word: "Bones"), where he nails the Shatner tone of voice perfectly. Simon Pegg's wide-eyed performance as Scotty was a hoot, as well. You get the feeling that a career geek like Pegg must have been squealing like a little girl when he was filming this
There were a few niggles I felt as a hardcore Trek nerd - but overall, this is a great reboot of the franchise, and one which I hope gives it the strength it needs to carry on for years to come...
