LOL, not what I know... I was just very very surprised that somebody on this forum would just name it. Its such an international forum with people from countries all over the world. I assumed most people here have no knowledge of what Maidan is....but You Know! I found that amazing....

So what country are you from? Have you been to Ukraine?

I am originally from Russia. I lived in Russia the first 14 years of my life, and then I moved to USA. Russian is still my first language and English is still my second one. So do you speak Russian?

I must say WOW. Do you have any songs in Russian there? I tried to download that utube but I couldn't play any songs, they asked me to pay for them.

:D Have you been there?

I been to Kiev once, which was a field trip of the middle school I was attending at that time. All I remember is that I got flu while there and I totally blamed it on radioactivity and was obsessed about Chernobyl ever since.

oh, I should listen to that song, can be intreresting to hear. Thanks for sharing link.

Since you want to listen to majdan songs, here is another song for you: go to http://www.vilner.net/nikitiny/pesni.html and listen to "Переведи меня через майдан...(Последняя просьба старого лирника)" This is a very differnet song from the other one I mentioned. One is about majdanek and the toher about majdan. Tell me which you like better, lol.

I live in a country in Europe. I wont specify closer than that. I have been a few times to Ukraine, I love that country!

So how come you are so secretive? Do you think I will stalk you?

xalepax wrote:
oh cool, but then you moved to India? Your profile says your location is India...

I came to India just to do post-doc. I don't have any Indian roots or anything like that. Just an accident that the Institute that let me in happened to be there.

My russian is close to crap. I have taken some courses to learn it. I understand better than I can speak but I can read if you talk in russian

There is one simple rule you have to remember, and then you won't have to remember anything else. Just speak EXACTLY the way you think, and it will be Russian. No not what you consciously think, that mght well be another language. But try to dig deeper into subconsciousness, whatever you think there, thats Russian.

xalepax wrote:
No. YouTube is very strict with copyright and so am I. There will be some songs in ukrainian language by the time that I have recorded of ukrainians singing and playing....

So why is English "better" than other languages? And also, why is Russian "worse" than Ukrainian, according to utube policy?

LOL!! When was this, long time ago?

Well, it was before 1992, since my mom moved to USA in 1992, and back at the time of the trip she was still in Russia.

Are you implying that radioactivity is lower now in Kiev? Is it just as clean as USA?

WOW! Thats awesome. Im a bad music listener so no wonder why I never go the idea to find songs about Maidan. But its just a wonderful idea and I really appreciate you got this idea for me, its brilliant.
I will take some time with listening to those songs and get back to you about it

I only want you to listen to TWO songs.

1) Maidanek http://www.natel.ru/mp3/track204s.mp3

2) Maidan "Переведи меня через майдан" on http://www.vilner.net/nikitiny/pesni.html

What confused you is probably that there are A LOT of songs in "2". Well, most of them are NOT on maidan. So you have to use edit and search for the word "майдан" in order to listen to the one I am talking about.

Okey, I have heard the two songs now. I cant say I like one better than the other. If so I have to listen to them many times like a kind of Eurovision desition. Thats not really my thing to rate songs.
Anyway, I like them both. They are very calm, clear and sensitive. I listen to the words even if I dont understand so good. Russian is honestly a very beauitiful language and when I get reminded like this I get to miss Ukraine, Maidan and my lack of good russian....
The Maidansong provided its lyrics on the site. I followed it with reading while they was singing and also translated into english so I could understand what they sang. It was deep and fragile. Sad melody....
I would love to use that song in my Maidan videos but I cant due to copyright on YouTube, once again...

I appreaciate a lot you shared these songs with me, спасибо Большое! :)

Oh yeah, if you come accross more songs about Maidan, just bring them on  :D

oh no absolutely not. Its not personal towards you. I would say the same in the whole forum, no matter who ask and in what topic it is. I have strong social phobia that might be one reason. Beeing secretive is a part of who I am unfortunately but I dont assume you are a bad person.

Wouldn't that mean you assume that EVERYONE are "potentially" bad people? I know that one is logic-dictated. But I guess in my case I assume that strangers are potentially bad; but everyone I talked to are all good. But I am naive. So since you are less naive, do you assume that ppl you talk to are also potentially bad? If so, how can you actually enjoy talking to them?

xalepax wrote:
Its about me and some of my AS problems, sorry for this.

Aren't people with Asperger MORE naive than others, which would mean they would be LESS likely to take pre-cautions?

However, I also know that in the past there was a theory of relation between autism and schizophrenia, in which case it WOULD make sense that ppl with Asperger should be more paranoid than usual. Do you believe in that theory?

xalepax wrote:
uh, what? To me no other language is better than the other and YouTube dont have any policies towards range in language or so, that would be very stupid of them wouldnt it?
If I had recorded somebody on video singing in russian I would love to share it on YouTube of course!

I guess when I asked you about Russian songs you said you won't put it there because you have to obey Utube policy. So that made me ask why is it in violation to post russian songs?

xalepax wrote:
Yes its definitely lower in Kiev now. Its basically normal. I have an ukrainian friend who live in Kiev who have been to Chornobyl. She said its not healthy to go there but its not extreme dangerous either even if its not recommended. The radioactivity is more or less limit to a certain area around Chornobyl and this area is sealed off and unaccessable.

Are you talking about 30 kilometer area around the reactor? If so, how can you say it is unacceptable? She been there herself, since you said she been to Chernobyl which, I believe, is only 12 - 18 kilometers. Or are you saying this zone is now shrinked to much smaller radius?

By the way, how does the radiation TODAY at the TOWN of Chernobyl (15 km from reactor) compares to the radiation in Kiev IN THE PAST ?

I am sorry if I made you feel squeezed. I just felt compelled to defend myself in order not to feel like a loser. I am was never mad at you; just have low confidence in myself due to my own Asperger, which is why I have to fight that kind of feeling, whether it comes from you or anyone else. So I really hope you don't take that personally.

Why did you do "edit and forget" on all of your replies? Are you mad at me?

Don't worry I do that too. When there is a thread that is remotely related to my obsessions, I would always kill it.

oh....you returned.....Im sorry for your feelings too, I didnt mean to offend you either. I should have been clear from the very beginning. I have learned that now so I wont offend the next person who ask the same.

Thank you, those words was kind of relieve. I also got the need to defend myself.

Apparently I do the same :(

Roman wrote:
So I read your last reply before you editted it, you were going to ask your best friend the questions I have about Chernobyl. Do you still plan to do that?

Yes, the questions interest us both so I will ask her, but probably not before the weekend. I have a hell week in front of me with a lot of complex things to do. There wont be any time for the computer at all.

Roman wrote:

No, I have never been mad at you. Try to trust and believe me in that. I just went incredible scared and worried that I "said too much" so I thought it was the best to edit off the info I provided. I wanted to ask you to do the same where you quote me but I was affraid that you would squeeze and questioning me again so I didnt... because your last questions was difficult to me so this was my way of defending myself.

My social phobia is stronger than ever and that makes me very sad. I cant even have a conversation on the internet in a thread I really liked from the beginning. Sorry for everything!! :(

Don't worry about this. We are still talking about majdan which is one of the two topics the thread is about :) And besides, what can POSSIBLY be more exciting than someone telling me they were going to make a post on Majdan the exact day I submitted the thread, or that they are going to use the music I suggested for their utube? I am not disappointed at all, I feel lucky that the thread went in a direction it did.
