You always pays for everything, how much is an other question. And personaly I think that the cure-thing is just a false hope for people treated badly that something in their head is wrong and all they need is a magic potion to turn their lives around.

As a lot of people already have stated, we suffers not from AS but the ignorance of others.

No to that question.
But a cure is no necessity or guarantee for getting a family, getting married or making friends. Uncured aspies can get that as well. Or some NTs remain childless, unmarried and maybe even friendless.

I could imagine: A boy asking a girl:
Will you marry me?
She: Erm... no, I don't think so!
He: But listen, honey: I'm neurotypical!
She: OH that's another story. Of course I'll marry you!
(Just an attempt of humour, not intended to be an insult.)

And BTW, I don't preach that we shouldn't be cured as such, but I don't think I would like a cure myself.
And no, NT is not a bad thing. :)

There's nothing wrong with being NT... but I wouldn't want to change who I am to be that way.

I mean, I may have a tonne of faults as an Aspie... but I'd have a tonne of different faults as an NT, so there's really nothing to choose between the two.

Although I'd probably have fewer action figures :P

i believe that the approximate prevalence of autism in an average population is about 0.625% or 1/160.
also i believe that about 20% of autistic people are in the HFA+ region, and i believe 20% of HFA's are in the AS region of functioning.
this would mean that roughly 1 in 800 people are HFA+ and 1 in 4000 are AS.
i got these figures from books i read when i was younger that my psychologist lent me.
they may be out of date, but they would not be wildly inaccurate.

i think the vast majority of self diagnosed AS people are incorrect in their self diagnosis.
i think that the world is 99.375% NT.

the people who i like and believe in in my life are most likely to be NT. i have never known another asperger person. i have known lower functioning autistics, but never an AS person. i can not say AS is better than NT. it is a silly question.

another thing i will say is that if my neural network was not starved of the genetic code it needed for completion, then my neural construction would be entirely finished and i would be NT. i would still be based on the fundamental foundation of the the "me" i currently am. i would be all i am now and something extra.

every "NT" on earth would be autistic if they did not get a certain set of genetic instructions for the manufacture of their neural network during their gestation.

if you saw some familiar NT person you know suddenly in the state they would have developed to if they had had the genetic manifestation of autism, you would see a drastic change in them, but you would still recognize their fundamental essence as the same person.

this means that AS and NT people are the same deep down.
it is too deep down for anyone to recognize it.

The fraction is on , but the other isn't(interpolation is dated)
1/160 ~ 37.5 million on the diagnosible spectrum(dsm-4) assuming 6 billion population
Wrong planet is dwarfed by 1266/1

I think that it is important that we do not start to be like the sheep in animal farm

"Four legs good, two legs bad"

might be changed by some members into

"AS good, NT bad"

I think that there are good and bad things in both the NT and AS community, I am in favour of the two groups getting on better with each other.

What I am deeply opposed to is attempts by one group to exterminate the other or try to transfrom the others against their will (or by using abusive methods) into their own kind. I also view some sham researchers as the producers of hate speech when they make up new lies about those with ASDs.

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with NT's, either. Now, it is true that most of the people I form friendships with have AS, but I don't think that either NT's or Aspies are superior.

Now, I think that the arguments about "a cure" are a different matter entirely. A lot of things about myself that have been diagnosed as AS are what I consider to be a large part of my personality. On the other hand, my therapist contends that when people talk about a cure for autism, they mean that the intention is to lessen the effects of low functioning autism. Of course, calling it "low functioning" is misleading, since many people with severe autism are very bright, but since they can not fit in with society at all, they are called low functioning.
I am inclined to say that it is wrong to try to cure autism. However, I really don't think that I know enough about the topic to safely make a firm opinion on the matter.
