Actually the messages of "people swearing, calling each other names, saying your message sucked, you sucked, burn in hell" are called flaming.

Trolling can be in many forms:

"1 PWN u n00b5 b3c4us3 1 4|\/| 3L33T!! !"

"All creationists are morons and should be put out of our misery!! !"

"Nobody with half a brain believes that"

"First!! !"

I was called a troll for dozens of times, especially by the newest members.

I've had to deal with some major trolling that has bordered on harassment, I compare that with the stuff people are being accused of trolling for on this forum, the accusers are sadly mistaken, it's such a shame that a legit user can be accused of "trolling" when it clearly isn't happening, I have had this once or twice for things that are far lesser than what I have contended with over recent weeks at the hands of genuine internet trolls

Usage of the word (wiki)
Application of the term troll is highly subjective. Some readers may characterize a post as trolling, while others may regard the same post as a legitimate contribution to the discussion, even if controversial. The term is often used as an ad hominem strategy to discredit an opposing position by attacking its proponent.

Often, calling someone a troll makes assumptions about a writer's motives. Regardless of the circumstances, controversial posts may attract a particularly strong response from those unfamiliar with the robust dialogue found in some online, rather than physical, communities. Experienced participants in online forums know that the most effective way to discourage a troll is usually to ignore him or her, because responding tends to encourage trolls to continue disruptive posts — hence the often-seen warning: "Please do not feed the trolls".

Second definition is interesting for some odd reason...

Quote:
Trolling is the act of purposefully antagonizing other people on the internet, generally on message boards. When done in a moderated internet community, this can result in banning. When done to uptight people such as fundies, this can result in hilarity.

Can anyone guess what that reason is?

^ Yeah I've seen you called a troll before but I know you're not. It's just that usually when people talk about being naked or something like that, they're pervy old men who are trying to get people to tell him dirty things about themselves

And I think Plotinus may have been one himself but not 100% sure.

I think he was one. At first I didn't think it and then I started to. I notice he hasn't been back so maybe he got banned.

I don't see how Spokane Girl spells out "pervy man" lol. Maybe the person thought it was a guy posting with that name lol.

Yeah there's tons of people on the internet who pretend to be someone they're not because they want to trick people into doing things or saying things.

I've been accused of being a pervy man myself
