My husband was in the Australian Army for over 23 years. There have been many times Australia was cajoled into different combat situations in his time in the Army. Call it good luck or good management he was not in the infantry so would never have been on the front line anyway. He was also not "battle fit" most of the time so never left our shores. Fortunately or not the recruitment process weeds out the brutal so that all the people my husband knew that were sent into combat and even piece keeping were very reluctant to go. Because they joined the Army and were then brainwashed into standing by their mate they went and very often came back much less of the persons they were, if they were lucky enough to come back at all. Innocent people are always the casualties of war.

Being the wife of and ex service man and the mother of 2 sons my opinion on war should be obvious. I have a better solution to war that would never involve innocent people. Instead it involves the war mongers of each country being escorted into a room, 2 guns thrown in and the doors locked behind them. I bet they would soon find a reason why not to go into battle if this was their only option.

Me Mabongee tribe.

We own and control this valley.

Times are tough so we will cross the mountains and attack the tribe next door.

We will kill their men and steal their women and take their food.

Fast forward to modern times.
America could easily conquer Canada but why should they?

I think that war is hard coded into our genes.

Modern war is bad but it had an evolutionary purpose for primitive Man.

A species will breed until it has used up the food supply.

That applies to humans too.

In some tribes you weren't a "man" till you had killed an enemy in battle. (Think Mafia and "made man")

So some guys from one tribe raided the tribe next door. They killed some men and stole some women.

This is a GOOD thing from an evolutionary point of view.

It lowered the population and broadened the gene pool to prevent inbreeding. The fittest survived.

Does that still apply in the age of atom bombs? Hell no!
But how can we stop the behavior formed by a million years of evolution?
