My obsession is learning about the Mafia. I also have an obsession about the LHAC.

What aspects of Russia do you find interesting in particular?
Is it Russia's history, or culture, or language, or landscape, or some combination of all of these things?

I suppose the three of them are major historical powers, and there are only so many of those to choose from.
But it's interesting that your doc chose those three, and not, say India or Egypt or Persia.
I am quite interested in Japan and China myself (in that order, probably). I am perhaps less interested in India. I'm not sure why. I just picture India as a bit too hot and dusty for my liking, while I picture China and Japan as having more temperate climates and being full of lush padi fields or lotus gardens - in the countryside at least.

Well as far as Russia I like the fact it is cold. I can go swimming in the middle of winter in PA. I really like the cold. I also like the culture and history and the fact the people are well read for the most part.

Ya it is odd. Most others I know with AS (well that I have talked to) don't like the hot like myself. For me it is because I can't sleep.

Dude I am fascinated by Russia. It's not an obsession to the level that yours seemingly is, but yea it's pretty deep.

Russia is awesome

I don't know if these qualify as obsessions, but I will ell you all them anyway...

1. Our sofa, it is really old and has a large blanket thing over it to stop it disintegrating, and the cushions slide out if you sit on them wrong. I ensure the sofa is always very tidy, with the throw never touching the ground, neither side being alot further down than the other, and the throw being strait, aswell as the cushions being in the correct places...

2. My bed, It is next to the wall, and when I make my bed I ensure all my pillows are in exactly the right place, and they aren't hanging off or anything, I make sure my duvet is tucked down one side and is not hanging of the other side more than 20cm and that the pillows are straight.

3. Folding stuff, unless I'm in a hurry I always meticulously fold things so their edges are perfectly lined up.

If any of these things are not as I intend them to be (which they never are) I usually get very annoyed.

I am also obsessed with Russia. Mostly because of the history, and because Russian music is awesome. I never thought this was weird, but my friends say it's weird, LOL.

I'm obsessed with Italy as well, but apparently that's not as weird.

I was born in 1974, and I'm obsessed with all the good things about the 1960s.

I am obsessed with the X-Men! But that doesn't sound like an odd obsession, does it? What's odd is that I often like to jot down a list of some of the X-Men members and sometimes write down their abilities as well. I also like to invent my own mutants. In addition, I imagine myself as a mutant, and I'm constantly pondering over what kind of mutant ability I should possess. Right now I'm leaning toward very strong cognitive abilities, like Jean Grey, only without the telekinesis.

Artificial neural networks. Had a lecture recently where the professor went into great detail about this, I found it very interesting (unlike the rest of the students).

Ooooh, I was obsessed with Russia in 8th and 9th grade.

Ncis, and keeping the cups in the right order at work. What, it's better than sweeping! J/k. I think it makes a nice presentation, though.

As a kid I was obsessed with the number sixteen. I thought it was perfect. More recently I couldn't get enough of the Rose Window of the Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland. I drew it, looked at pictures of it, and wanted to design knitted lace based on it. That proved so frustrating I put it away for a while.

BTW neither of those are my flickr account, so it's possible I'm not the only one. ;)

Most other obsessions I've had aren't very unique.

I'm obsessed with pitch correcting music on CDs so that I can play along with it on the keyboard or bass/guitar.

Most people, even you, have probably never noticed this. But analog music, recorded on tape, since day one, tends to be played back at the right speed only by accident, whether on a record, cassette or CD. Before technology such as servo-lock and quartz-lock speed governors existed, I think that no two tape machines ran at exactly the same speed. So you get records and CDs, on which each song runs at a slightly different pitch somewhere sharp or flat of A=440 Hz. It wasn't played with the instruments tuned "in the cracks" but it is reproduced that way. That makes it impossible to play along with a whole disc of songs recorded on different machines and transferred to vinyl or CD on yet another one.

I've just spent a week retuning all of the tracks on a 6CD box set and burning new discs, because NOT ONE of the tracks ran at the right speed! I won't even get into how out-of-phase many old recordings are, since I got software that analyzes and corrects phase, or how much time I've spent fixing that.

Is that an odd obsession? I mean, what comes out is better than it was when it went in, so I'm doing something that has beneficial results. But I don't know anyone else who knows or cares about it. Apparently nobody in the recording industry does...
