Most people buy their stuff online. With much lower prices, free shipping, and no tax, it doesn't make sense to shop in stores anymore.

Very true. I buy a lot of my stuff online. Because I'm on a tight budget and can't afford a car, and it's sometimes too much of a hassle to take the bus to the mall or whichever store all the time, I've been shopping online a lot more. The prices are also definitely an influence for online shopping. However, it's still nice to go to the grocery store or farmer's market to buy food. I think it would drive the price higher to have my food delivered to my dorm. That just sounds funny lol. I also have a food plan at my university, but next year I'm thinking of buying my own food so I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do about that. To any college students out there: If you aren't doing so already, buy your textbooks online! You will save hundreds, or thousands, of dollars by the end of your college career as compared to buying them at the bookstore. Selling your books online also gets a lot more of your money back versus selling them back to the bookstore.

Hmmmm, well the indoor mall where i live still seems to be thriving. There's been only a few store closure, & just minor ones. The only biggish store that closed down that i know of was Sam Goodies (CDs/DVDs/etc.).
They're even opening up a new fancy sit-down restaurant down at one end :) .

It was a passing fad. Everything was on Main Street fifty years ago. Four blocks with lots of small stores. When the burbs took off malls started being built, then bigger malls, then a mall on every corner, and now, 2,000 will close forever this year.

I buy almost everything on the internet.

Office buildings are another relic of the past.

Here where I happen to live, "reviving downtown" after "the mall" had taken over many years ago is still being pursued, and now an old theater owned by the city is being expanded into some kind of alleged "cultural center" with very little parking space nearby.

I do all my "window shopping" on eBay, then "Google" for the best prices and make my purchases through PayPal without ever having to get out of my seat!

Downtown revival is another big thing these days. For years, I thought many of the older buildings in downtown Houston were going to be demolished. Instead, they were turned into high-end lofts.

I don't think I'd mourn the passing of shopping malls. They are kind of soulless places anyway.

There is one near me with some great arcade games though!

The closest real mall is pretty blan in terms of what stores are inside so it's been pretty dead for at least 4 years. The strip mall near me has alot more happening but not enough people buying stuff to keep all the stores open.

The real mall that's about a 45 minute drive is still really busy, it also has alot more specialty stores that actually have a meaning to people. The reason I go to this one is because it has an Apple Store inside, so it's pretty fun to fiddle with a $1000.00 computer. :D

But I frown at the high school kids who only use them for photo booth and forget how they got to the program in the first place....

Shoppers' world topic

I have never bought anything on line, though I do check prices to compare. I do not have a credit card.

The malls where I live are very busy. No decline here. In fact, many are expanding.

I would rather see in the flesh the item I want to buy. There is something creepy about ordering through a catalogue (the old way before the Internet) sight unseen.

I'm really sad that shopping malls are dying off - the mall is where all the best clothes are. It also used to be my favorite place to buy DVDs, but they closed down Suncoast a couple of years ago. :( Thankfully, there are still plenty of Hastings stores to buy DVDs from.

There's always JC Penney and Best Buy, though.
