I like all dogs, but I prefer the larger breeds. I currently have a black lab (best animal I have ever owned) bought off of a farm as a pup and also a lab/rott? mix pup. The mutt I got from the shelter. She is sweet, but is also the stupidest/clumsiest dog I have ever owned.

I had a wolf hybrid when I was in high school. She was, by far, the smartest animal I have ever owned which made her a handful. She also had strong pack hierarchy instincts. She saw my parents as the alphas of the family, and she saw me as a competitor for attention and dominance.

If I were to get a purebred (not likely due to price) I would probably go for a border collie.

I am also very fond of these breeds.

I am also quite fond of the Chow Chow.

I think it's a good thread for this question: does anyone know how the skin of Chinese crested dogs looks like when they are already old? Because Sam, the famous three time winner of the ugly dogs contest was so wrinkled all over: http://samugliestdog.typepad.com/photos ... hills_.jpg :eew: I never found any photos of the old dogs of this breed nor the information on this.

A Wikipedia article that you my find interesting: Intelligence of Dogs.

Though this has to do more with the ability to train a dog than outright intelligence, otherwise dogs like the Huskies would be way higher, since they're incredibly smart, but they're much more independent than the others.

It's a threeway tie between the following:

Irish Wolfhound
Scottish Deerhound
German Shep...
Mastiff
Saint Bernard
basically anything that qualifies as a REAL dog, not these mutated sewer rats that all the little rich "miss thang" type of girls carry in their handbags. They are pets not accessories dumbo!!

Dobermans! I'm a little obsessed with the breed.

I think my second favorite is Weimaraners. I also like Vizslas and Pharaoh Hounds.

They do learn very quickly and have a high energy level. Amazing dogs. They're really hard to own though.

When I was a very young kid I was terrified of dogs. Now that I'm older I've always wanted a German Shepherd. A good friend has one named Greta: she has this thing about giving pinecones to visitors.
