In my life my father hit the bottle as I was going through adolescence. He was very stressed about how I did in an school and socially. Alcoholism eventually took his life and I do occasionally feel guilty about it.
Of course, I don't always find the Onion humorous whether it involves the autism spectrum or not.
I sometimes think my father got sick and eventually died partly because of his being worried about me. But I also think two other things; one, he decided how to deal with his illness and there was nothing I could do to make him better, and two, he would much rather he be the one to get sick and die than that it be me. I know this for a fact and I'm sure it would have been the same for your father. There's no reason to feel guilty about it. Grief, yes but guilt, no.
