Why is meeting someone online in person more dangerous...

Meeting anyone is potentially dangerous, even (or in some cases, especially) people you know.

I like a bit of danger.

i met a complete stranger online. who so far i have been invited to her place in miami in august and her fathers place in france in december.

worst case scenario, ive been fooled and they murder me. but if thats the case my problems are over. no more mundane day job. no more bills. no more bull.

no worries vs free vacation to miami and france?


this is both win win for me. minus my horrific murder

Fair enough, you win this one.

When I was younger (13) I had someone attempt what I was fairly certain was an attempt to abduct me after a series of conversations we had, luckly I was too paranoid to give this person my address.

The fact this person never gave me more then one photo of themselves and kept talking about wanting to send me a nice letter(when we had no trouble whatsoever communicating digitally) gave them away.

Because when you meet someone from online, they can kill you or hurt you after you meet them. That's why you meet in a public place.

People online can claim to be anything they want to be. A 50 year old man can pretend to be a 25 year old man to woo a woman he met online who is only 22. So they meet and instead he grabs her and kills her instead.

In real life it be hard to pretend to be a 25 year old man when you're 50. Of course you can still lie about your age and lie about your life style you have when you meet someone in real life. Of course they can still hurt you when you go off alone with that person. People pretend all the time when they first meet someone and then after a while they start being themselves after being with you. It takes about three to six months to see the real person you have met. Sometimes it's sooner than that.

So meeting people from online is taking risks just like in real life when you meet someone at a bar or through a blind date or whatever.

Maybe a 50 year old man meets a 22 year old woman in the workplace (co-workers) and the man can do something to the woman anytime. He can pretend to be oblivious when he hears the news of the woman missing or if the woman's body is found.

My point all along in this thread is that both online and real life people takes trust because no one knows what people's exact intentions are or what they are thinking in their head.

No you don't. The predator can send another person to the webcam and say "Lets meet up!" But when you meet up, its an old fart attempting to snatch you away.


Yeah but what's the actual chance of that being the case? I'd bet it's low, I've never even read of it happening in the news. I mean, what would this "predator" even say to the person to get them to do it?

Though, if you do want to be super-paranoid, you can mention something you talked about over a text conversation while on webcams and see if they know what you're on about. That'd work especially well if it was some sort of in-joke.

True, but as you say, that's the same situation as you get with every person you see in the real world.

Exactly, I have come to the conclusion that meeting up with someone online in a public place with lots of people around is just as dangerous as meeting new people in real life. If someone online tells you to meet them in a quiet alley, then thats a different story.
