"Zaphod Beeblebrox" is pretty fun too.

Oh... and "Worcestershire Sauce."

Any Spanish word which includes the "trilled" R. For example, if a word starts with "R" in Spanish, you are supposed to flutter your tongue as you say it. I am always tempted to extend the length of the trill!

That was awesome! Thank you for posting it! With any luck it will be stuck in my head and people will wonder why I have a silly grin on my face!

Great thread BTW.

many of us [especially in america] seem to lack the gene which codes for ability to trill/roll R's. but i am prone to clumsy but enthusiastic rhotacisms myself. anyways, my favorite funny words of dubious etymology, are-

sheemoo [a minced oath]
jeez louise [a minced oath]
shazzbutt [all-purpose euphemistic expletive]
d'oh! [ditto]
doodly-sqwat [a minced oath]
yabadabadoo [fred flintstone's favorite cheer]
shyamanama [a minced oath]
steatopiguous [means having huge jutting buttocks]
wish sandwich [ghetto slang for having 2 slices of bread and no meat]
nosegay [a bunch of flowers, but it sounds funny]
reintarnation [being reincarnated as a hillbilly]
carbuncle [a ruptured, absessed boil]
spoonerism [unintentional transposition of words or syllables, e.g., "tiger's woody"]
indubitably [without question]
philtrum [that little notch thingie on your upper lip beneath the nose]
foofaraw [noisy overreaction or flashy decoration]
redumbancy [repeating the same mistake over and over]
lugubrious [refers to exaggerated sadness, but the word itself just sounds funny]
caddywampus [for something to be disorderly]
obsequious [to be apple-polishingly ingratiating]
judas h. tap-dancing priest! [a minced oath]
daggone [a minced oath]
inka dinka doo [simply means inka dinka doo :) ]
¡aye carramba! [a euphemistic expletive made famous on "i love lucy"]- i love exaggerating the double-RR trills of this phrase.

I'd be cautious using that one, gook can be considered racist. :? Someone may take it the wrong way.

Either way, I've grown to abuse the word "useless" over everything that doesn't quite go as I'd have intended, be it people, devices or other various inanimate objects.

I can't make the trilled R sounds used in Spanish and Russian. That frustrates me, haha. I was told by a Spanish professor that if people don't start doing it when they're little kids they're usually not able to learn to. I also think it's interesting that in Japanese there is no L or R sound, but a sort of tongue flapping sound that is in between. That's why many Japanese people mix up the L's and R's in English.

And, I like the word "zany".

There are three trills: alveolar, uvular and guttural. I can spell two last, but alveolar is still unavailable for me.

When somebody tells me not to get all bent out of shape, I like to reply, by saying, "Get bent!"
