My direct answer to the OP; speaking from my own thoughts, is that it's about 50% culture & custom, and 50% appealing to the opposite sex. If I see a woman with hairy armpits, it's gross. I imagine she has B.O., whether true or not. I also assume she doesn't care about personal hygiene, which may not be true either. Hairy legs on women is not attractive to me, but not disgusting like armpits, I guess.

Bottom line, I could not be interested in any woman with hairy armpits, as they are a very masculine thing to me. Although I like certain "tom boy" traits in women, of which my wife has in perfect balance, I do not like manly features on women. I guess hairy armpits would be like a girl with big veins popped out on huge, muscular defined arms  .

Because women are soft and more squishy than men. Being hairless adds to the softness.

I'm not soft and squishy. I weight lift every day.

I hate it if the hair on my legs or under my armpits grow too long. It becomes itchy under clothes so I have to shave regularly. Too bad the costs of replacement heads on my razor (4 blades) are soo expensive. D:

I only shave my legs when I want them to be smooth. That's not too often. My pits, though... hair there for either gender grosses me out.

Why wouldn't you want to shave your legs as a girl? It feels so much better, and looks nice. It's not even difficult. And not shaving underarms is just kind of gross.

I don't see the point. Plus, I am dual gendered mentally and I like looking the part even if it's just through hair on my legs.

Why do women have to remove the hair on their legs? I don't see why men should be socially accepted to have hairy legs and armpits, when women are socially supposed to be hairless. It drives me mad. Stupid societal norms.

If you dont want to remove your body hair, dont do it, its that simple.

Ive met many women over my life who dont remove their body hair, esp if they wear trousers. And when I lived in Brighton a very cosmopolitan town there was even women who wore shorts and skirts who did not shave their legs.

If someone is funny about it, sod them! Its not their body, they have zero control over what you do with it.

In my family my mum and sister and gran never remove any of their body hair and they have all had husbands so I dont think its a 'biggie' at all.

I remove my body hair as I have issues about it, but thats for me and not for other people, and most bf's Ive had have been critical of me removeing it so I really dont think you should worry about what others think and just do whats right for you.

yeah, i second this. do what you feel good about, and people who care are not worth bothering with in my opinion. i dated at least 7 guys when i didn't shave my armpits/legs/pubic line, back in high school. not one of them cared (why would they care about something so silly if they wanted to date me?)

In the winter months, natural... in hot summer months, total hair removal.
And I use the Veet or Nair removal creams.

I've gone without shaving in the winter before, and it seems like the armpits collect odor even more when there's a bunch of hair there to collect it. So I like to keep them shaved simply so I don't smell like a barn. Then I figure, since I'm still holding this razor, i might as well sweep it up the legs. Only takes a couple of minutes since my hairs aren't too thick. I'll admit, though... right now my legs are getting to be like a forest. It's been cold so I've not been wearing shorts and I've felt lazy lately. So maybe I'll change that soon. When I get around to it.

I think it has something to do with women being beautiful relative to guys, and the allure of appearing youthful. Traditionally, hairy guys meant high in testosterone and being desirable for masculinity and strength, while high estrogen retains a more feminine, less hairy, child-like appearance. I try to be open-minded towards what I see as attractive qualities , but I do find shaven legs and pits to be attractive on a woman. Guys that shave their legs by choice or for sports appear softer and weaker, and are more likely to have their sexuality questioned.

although what you are saying seems to have some truthiness, it doesn't seem to be actually borne out by female preferences. very few women prefer hairy men.

as an aside... considering that women grow leg and pit hair during puberty (9 to15 years old), it is frankly kind of disgusting if men actually want their women looking that young. i hope it is for other reasons that some men prefer it...

Yes, you are right, but if you watch any movie made more than 20 years ago, the romantic lead was almost always a hairy ape. Right or wrong, guys are having to do many of the things that women have had to do to meet some standards of what is attractive.

I don't think men secretly want a child. As men mature their facial features go from boyish to more angular and defined, and muscle mass develops more heavily in diffent areas. Women get curves, but their faces don't seem to undergo the same transformation. I have seen 60 year old women that if you removed the wrinkles and signs of aging that they would have a girlish/boyish quality to their faces. Of course, it varies.
