Most people can't read an ebook on the computer without their eyes hurting. On a forum you're not encountering that much text at once, or focusing on it that long.

I can think of literally millions of games to play on a Windows based laptop, whereas Apple users are well-known for getting the short end of the stick.

Exactly, that's why I'd like one. The overlay is irritating. Cat hair gets stuck to it and light glares off it so I have to sit in just the right position to read with enough light but no glare. But I can't find any information online about if the reading devices can change colour. I'd have to try one first to see if it would work for me.

I just downloaded the Barnes and Noble eReader app for my ipod and you can change the background and text color on it.

Depending on how it's designed, you could possibly open it up and slide a green sheet of paper behind the screen...but...I wouldn't recommend it, as it would destroy your warranty.

Maybe you could email B&N (or whoever) about it and see what they think. Maybe they make custom eReaders for people with disabilities.

Yes, but you do realize some people cannot afford a "you get what you pay for" gadget that a kindle will work just fine?

I can't afford it (the iPad), so I'm saving my money so I'll have enough when the next generation comes out. I'd rather save and go without rather than spend less (but still substantial) money on something that wasn't as good.

Edited to clarify that I want the iPad.

Now see, that's my problem with the ipad... you really don't get squat for $600.00.

Let's compare one with my humble, $300.00 aspire one, shall we?

..for $600.00 the ipad gives you a 1 ghz processor, 256mb ram, and 16 GB of storage and no keyboard...

for $300.00 my aspire gives you 1.66 ghz n280 atom processor, 2GB ram, 250GB hard drive, a REAL KEYBOARD, runs windows 7, microsoft office, plays netflix video effortlessly, plays mp3s, plays MANY REAL PC GAMES click here...

Yeah... for $600.00 the only thing the ipad does well is separate the tragically hip (read FOOLS) from their money!
And just think, in 4 months that $600.00 ipad will be discounted to $150.00 (still not worth it) when Apple rolls out ipad 2.0!! ! :lol:

It has a touch keyboard which works very well. If you don't like it, you can connect any Bluetooth keyboard to it.

Proper PC games are not likely to run that well on $300 hardware, and the iPad runs iOS, not OS X, and iOS has literally thousands of games, many free.

As I said on my post in the last page, there's nothing your crappy laptop can do practically with that hardware that the iPad can't.

Office, Netflix, mp3s and games are all things the iPad does perfectly.

Of course, it's the cheaper option that works fine if you can't afford an iPad, but that's it.

Kindle features:
-eInk display
-Books
-Book store
-Internet connection over 3G
-Beta internet browser (on a greyscale screen, remember)

The only thing the Kindle has going for it is the eInk display, with I admit is easier on the eye, but if you're used to LCD screens the iPad won't present any significant problems anyway.

The image on the Kindle looks good. The main drawback is lack of color.
