We don't use our vacuum much - we got laminate and hardwood flooring in our house. But not even a Swiffer can beat a vacuum for cat hair. Hence, we still have our Eureka Boss and a Ridgid wet/dry vac for bigger messes.

My parents say I was afraid of the vacuum when I was very little; probably because of the noise.

I'm not like that now thou. I don't mind vacuuming the house; it's much better & easier than other housework.

Vacuuming can be lots of fun. It is instant gratification, you see what you have done right away. The sounds expensive vacuums makes is lovely, i.e., Kirby, Rainbow, Filter Queen, etc. Plus, I like Kirbys the best because they have the polish aluminum case, expensive cloth bag material, and nice feeling plastics.

Kirbys are EXPENSIVE. We're happy with our $200 Eureka from Sears.

My dad had a Kirby which he was attached to. I couldn't stand that thing. The exterior of the bag attracted dust, it was heavy as hell and if I remember correctly it didn't like to turn. Our landlord stole it when he changed the locks or whatever.

No, but I think it's very cool that you are. I can see the appeal. And couldn't we say "Vini, Vidi, Vacuumi"? kekeke

Ah, that is the join of the internet. I didn't buy a new one, I don't like the sound the transmission makes (it is self propelled) in the most recent models. So I bought a vintage one, circa1984 model, refurbished it, upgraded the bag system so it could run HEPA bags and I have a great vacuum that will last a long, long time.

Pistonhead is right, they are heavy, so it is like you are cleaning and getting a workout at the same time. Of course, the weight is from the metallic casing which tends to lend its self to durability, but, as you know, at the cost of maneuverability. A dyson ball it ain't.

Happymusic, I prefer: Today, November 6th, 2010, a day that will live in infamy, wrongplanet.net had a provoked, sustained discussion of Kirby vacuums.

i have long been partial to the sharp twin energy series, they were distinctly quieter than the average vacuum.

the comedian and organist Stan Kahn [pronounced "stan-kan"] has a large collection of vintage vacuum cleaners that he takes on nationwide tours with him, either on the comedy circuit or on the [pipe] organ circuit.

Wait one minute! I thought you were a Ninja hiding in the shadows, not some gumba from Brooklyn? "Hey Joey, this f****n' guy likes vacuuuums." "The f**k heee does." "Would I s**t jou Vinny?" ( To be read with a combination of a Goodfellas accent, a dab or Chicago mafia informant and a touch of Jersey Shore).

Words to live by: Take the cannoli and leave the gun.

Well, I do love *my* vacuum. ^_^ Except it's in fact a robot. :D Vacuuming isn't something I'd ever like, so now my robot can do the job. :) It's black, flat and round, with a shiny upper surface, and moves about like a curious pet, and makes a sound that is very low and almost soothing. It's made by iRobot, by the way. I love it when it decides to move to the next room to start cleaning there, instead, and when it's finished with all the cleaning, it goes back to its station to charge. Oh, and when it starts cleaning, it also makes a happy tune and starts beeping as it backs from its station, as if warning you that it's backing, like a truck. :P It can also be scheduled to start cleaning completely on its own, and if you want to, you can control it yourself with a remote that looks a bit like a miniature of it. Most importantly, though, it cleans really well. :) For a robot vacuum, anyway. The only problem is that it has to be cleaned quite regularly, and I'm going to have to buy a separate vacuum for the areas that it can't reach. I'm considering getting a pink one with a water bin, or what it's called in English, and it should have a round, cute shape... I'm unsure of what to get, though. :B Any suggestions are welcome, but it'd have to be something currently on the market, so I can get it unused. I don't like getting things with previous owners. :l

I really do love my vacuum... or my robot, as I'd rather call it. :) Ever since I was little, I've wanted a robot, and now I actually have one. ^_^ I just hope it won't end up breaking, with time, although the newer iRobot vacuums are really easy to replace broken parts in, including cogwheels and all, so it should all be okay, I guess. :B

Dysons are a gimmick IMO. I don't think my parent's home will ever see a Kirby thanks to our hardwood and laminate floors.

OT, but I broke my pledge about buying only North American-made appliances last week. Me and my dad bought a Samsung washer from Lowe's. It works pretty great actually. And the funny part is that Samsung makes washers and microwaves for Whirlpool/Maytag.

I only wished it was a steam washer powered with Samsung's Galaxy S processor with Android with a 4.3" touchscreen. Oh, an aspie can wish...

not ever been into vaccumes, my son with as used to be terrified of them. i do however have a facination with hand driers, i have a list of favorite hand driers and find myself visiting the bathrooms with my favorite hand driers as a bit of a treat. even if i am desperate to use the toilet, i will wait to find a bathroom with a hand drier that will at least dry my hands> my friends think im strange>
