I don't care for it myself. Usually for me it is associated with loud noises, drinking relatives, and the mess and disturbance they leave behind. So I often opt to work on that day. :?

About loud noises, are most aspies very sensitive to that? I hate huge crowds on the train because people talk loud or laugh so loud. To me if you are talking to someone who is seating right next to you, why do you have to yell??? I do not like parties at work of any kind even though there are only 11 of us. There are certain people who are just so loud! It's so annoying. But my aunt has several dogs so I'm ok.

How much I hate it depends on what kind of food I'll be forced by good manners, to eat against my will, and how loud and judgmental the dinner table is.

I don't like it when people get all excited over how big the turkey is. I do eat meat but yet I get sad over Thanksgiving. Anyone a Vegan? How do you all celebrate Thanksgiving?

I don't mind the food, I guess. I just hate all of that "family getting together and sharing memories" BS. It's loud, everyone's doing a million things and all talking at the same time. People expect me to talk when I don't have anything to say. It is such a BS holiday.

Were you emotional at the funeral? I couldn't contain myself when my grandfather died. I never had a chance to say good bye to him either. I miss him so much. Have you gone to grief support group? I'm going this weekend.

I didn't show any emotion. I don't like to cry in front of people. But I cried when I was alone. That's why I wish I could just forget everything. I can't see or hear things that can remind me of him or my great grandmother anymore. She was buried last year in August. How odd. Relatively close. And they were the ones I was closest to. I mean, I love all my grandparents, but my maternal grandfather, and my father's maternal grandmother were the ones I was closest to. I haven't gone to a support group. I must try to forget about the whole thing, which is why I don't visit my mother's family, despite how much I've been missing my aunt lately, and I'll never go back to visit my father's parents. From their house, her house was only a short walk away and I would go at least once a day.

It's just the same as Christmas, why would you want 2 Christmases? I think just the one is fine.

what's wrong with permanent xmas? that would essentially be heaven on earth.

I like Christmas a lot better than Thanksgiving.

I don't like the fact that Thanksgiving is so close to Christmas--it's a week later than it was when I was a young turkey. Some other time of year would be preferable, but then it wouldn't make a very good harvest festival, would it?

As it is, I try to keep it low key: four people, tops; casual china; Cornish game hens instead a big honking bird, no TV. Everyone eats, gets bored, goes home and leaves--best part--delicious leftovers behind.

I don't much care for Thanksgiving. It's the beginning of a month and a half of exhaustion for me.

It already is permanent xmas according to shops and advertisers. The garden centres sell all the baubles and stuff in September.

That's true. In September, I was looking for some Halloween decorations, and there were Christmas decorations everywhere already! The Halloween decorations in a little corner.

I don't hate it, but it sure isn't my favorite. The big reason for that is that THEY MOVED THE FOOTBALL TO NFL NETWORK! Dang move to cable right when my parents convince themselves they can't afford it...

I love Thanksgiving because of the food. I used to hate it because my family would always have or attend a big gathering with my entire extended family, and it was really chaotic. A few years ago we moved, and now it's just my family - no parties, no guests, much less stress. Unfortunately Thanksgiving seems more like pre-Christmas. Now that Halloween's over, I get assaulted by Christmas music and decorations every time I walk into a store.

I don't celebrate holidays for their meanings; I just use them as an excuse to have fun. To me, Thanksgiving is "Experiment With New Recipes Day". I hate Christopher Columbus with a passion, but I never complained about having his day off from school.
