my morals if I find stuff: if there is no ID, it's finders keepers... do what the police would do... take it and use it. no one lays claim on the object.

My mom once found a wallet containing exactly 901 US dollars, but it had no ID or anything else in it... finders keepers ;)

Here in Denmark, you may legally take 10 percent of the amount of money you find IF there's a means of owner identification, ie. proof of who the owner is, else you may legally take everything.

Also, many stone age artifacts can be found here (stone knives, axes, spearheads etc.). People usually keep them for themselves, but according to law, one has to donate them to a museum, HOWEVER you may require payment for the item. Another thing is that you must report where you found the item so the area can be turned into an archeological site.

I've personally found small coins, a few flint knives and a few pieces of amber with insects stuck in them... one of the amber pieces brought me some good money as it contained both a mosquito and a fly, which is heaps more rare than finding one with a single insect inside.

Most I ever found was $5. It was in an old tattered coinpurse that I found half-buried in the mud in a dirt parking lot.

My mom is quite lucky at this - once she found a silver tie-pin and a simple, thin silver ring with a tiny turquoise - too big for me though.

I found today a good pair of plastic sunglasses laying on an old piece of kitchen furniture someone threw out and that was laying near the dumpster. My mom in turn, found recently a banknote of 100 Polish zlotys. It's quite a big sum of money.

I was driving home from work one night, saw what looked like a bill in the road. Kept going, convinced it couldn't be what I thought it was. After a couple blocks, I stopped and turned around, I knew it would bug me if I didn't check.

It was a 20. "Score!" I thought to myself, and started back to the car. Saw another, went and picked it up too. Gave a quick look up and down the street to see if there was any more. There was. A big-ass wad sitting in the gutter. Almost $900.

That was a very good day.

I have found some amounts of money etc on the streets before, but nothing really substantial.

Once I found someone's wallet with some money, cards etc in it with the person's name on the cards. Then also there was a small plastic zipbag of dried plant leaves, which I asssumed to be marijuana (I had never used or seen them before, so I wasn't sure). My classmate took it to the police intact. I don't know what happened after that.

Yes, I found a crisp $100 bill inside a store. I turned it in to the cashier, and asked that if no one claimed it, they give it to charity. The other cashiers crowded around and said they might go drinking with it. :(

One of them said he wished he would have found the money because he hadn't eaten in two days, so I went next door, and got him some food.

How would I know it was your benefits?

If I find something I'd go by the saying "finders keepers, losers weepers" unless I actually saw the person drop it or there was a way to definitely identify the owner (like if they dropped a wallet full of cash with an id in it). Otherwise if it was loose cash, especially if it was just somewhere on a street and not in a store or other place where you could turn it in, how would I even manage to track down and owner to return it?

if you lose/have something stolen, you will find something
I lose things all the time!
