I encourage my children to say "Yes". I always correct them when they say "yeah" or "Yep" which they have been learning at childcare off the other children. It sounds low brow and un-educated. I am not going to let my children lose a potential scholarship, job interview or a potential partner due to incorrect language (I am a stickler for manners too).

I also correct me, myself and I; you and ewes; and any number of american words which they feel the need to try to say like cupcakes and cookies.

It is my job as a parent to teach my example and I do.

My children are only 2 and 4. It is never too early.

One of my 5th grade teachers would get upset whenever I wrote 'stuff' , she'd say "never use that word but describe what stuff.. " or something to that effect.

In formal occasions and in formal e-mails, use 'yes'. Informally, just use 'yeah'. It's not all that difficult, yeah?

I usually don't type Yeah because it has one more character than Yes & Yep so it's easier & faster not to type Yeah. I think I say Yep just as often as I say Yeah but I live in the south & watched a lot of King Of The Hill

if they don't want you to say yeah, insist no one use contractions.

How is that relevant?

"Yeah" is not a contraction.
