I usually dress for mere utility. Why should I care how other people think of how I look?

Bit of both.

I happen to like the look of functional clothes!

A combination of factors.

Because of the climate where I am, I usually wear breathable and comfortable soft black shirts and yoga pants for simplicity but wear lightweight gauzy overshirts to add a bit of visual variety.

During "winter" I switch from guazy overshirts to soft black hoodies or sweaters/ cardigans I can remove if the temperature changes.

Jeans feel like cardboard to me, although I really love the way they look on others.
