Geeks have never been (and never will be) cool.
Ever.

Nerd - Natural intelligence = Geek

They're so annoying.

'Geek' is an insult; 'nerd' is not.

actually, a geek was a circus performer, more specifically part of the side show. the performer's act consisted of a single geek, who stood in center ring to chase live chickens. It ended with the performer biting the chickens' heads off and swallowing them.

it is only recently that the term has been applied to nerds.

(I could swear I already replied to this...)

I was referring to the more 'recent' definition of the word, and I believe that Silhouette-Song was doing so also.

I am aware of that, i was simply trying to share the origin of the word Geek

A ret*d who always claims things are 'too mainstream'; then they proceed to try to talk to you about music and they're like... "Oh, f**k! That's right! You've never heard of them!"

... Actually, I have.
stfu.

I unfortunately share similar musical tastes with these imbeciles.

And, God, oh GOD is it annoying when people try to be one! (Which is 99% of them. They're self-proclaimed hipsters.)

Think punks in the 70s.

Actually, they're more of your generation; my generation is just ret*d and they want to copy them.

I'm a nerd and I'm proud to be one. The only problem is, most nerds today aren't really smart and like anime or gaming rather than sci-fi or fantasy. I manage to become friends with these types of people, but I've had to adapt in order to do so.

They act like they're into many 'nerdy' subjects. Perhaps the hipsters in Montreal are different compared to elsewhere. They are everywhere here. The joys of living in a Bohemian city

Yep, sometimes

Where do do dork and spazz fit in on the spectrum? This is so confusing. :)

It's not really the intelligence factor that bugs me. I'm really used to not having intellectual conversations. I rarely ever do. I just hate having to talk about large-eyed, androgynous, mary sue freaks with mouth flaps when I have to talk with my friends. "No Taylor, I will not read your Gundam fanfic." "No Cory, I do not want to see the live action Death Note movie." And as the anime/gaming community at my school is close with the emo/punk/goth community, I have to deal with whiners in skinny pants that wear multicolor bandanas around their necks and meticulously style their hair. Besides these tradeoffs, I still get along with the anime/gaming kids because I was once big into gaming and anime/manga when I was younger. Gaming got boring and pointless for me and anime is too generic and convoluted for me to enjoy. I still play some games and read a little bit of manga(if the story and art style doesn't make me sick). I also know a lot about the subcultures so I can understand inside jokes and certain terms.

Though I know of people my age who are into anime, there aren't many. But it seems like most teenagers are into it now. It doesn't seem very non-mainstream to me. Is this so? Or is it just that they gather at the same sites I happen to go to? (Besides here.)
