I prefer to read and answer short posts. They tend to be more direct.
I believe if a topic is well written and well directed then the length of the thread will become longer and more people will pitch in, rather then burning them out on the first OP post.
But I also read some of the long ass "novels", those I have to even re-read because my focus isn't the best and I lose track easily. But since I want to help/give insight/support the OP in his/her topic I want to be thorough. And that gets me thinking HARD and renders me tired from all the potential questions and issues one displays in a long post/rant/vent. That leads to me reading long posts and never answering them. Even though I feel I have some good input.
Mostly I just read through it and leave a fairly short answer but try my hardest to hit the bullseye in the persons text that will hopefully have some impact on the reader, some posts I put more weight in but it's rare.
