I don't go out of my way to try to offend someone, but I try not to let people get a good bearing on me, which might or might not be intentional depending on my mood. I don't like the thought of someone being able to predict how I am going to respond to whatever is being discussed. Sometimes, people don't seem to care for a stance I take on something which is often the basis for more interesting discussssions.

Easy answer... be complicated. Can't hit a moving target.

Unless me saying this is completely predictable, in which case, oh well.

Sure, but then some of them either get all pissy about that or else just have no clue where to go from there!

I am careful about what I say in places that are indexed by google just because I don't want my name associated with things that I normally wouldn't tell a prospective employer about myself (registered democrat, liberal activist, devoted episcopalian, active soccer mom, etc.). But those are things I wouldn't care if my employer knew after hiring because I cannot/should not be discriminated against for it... but there's nothing stopping them from tossing my resume in the trash without an interview if they find me on google defending gay marriage. And I'm to the point where I'll pretend to be whatever just to get the job.

But, honestly, outside of my extreme employment situation, if someone wants to judge me as a bad person because I wrote something honest on a website that they couldn't understand/accept, I don't need them or their judgment.

I post like I walk in streets, corridors etc. Usually extremely carefully, almost so as not to step on toes, but with the occasional moment where I just CRASH into someone or something.
