I've heard silencing subsonic rounds is easier, but I have no direct experience. The silencer also slows and diffuses the escape of the hot gases, think leaking balloon instead of popping balloon.

For home defense, I want a strobe like the one in Kickass. For hog hunting, I'd love a night-vision scope. Evidently, if I acquired a Class 3 gun dealer's/collector's license, I could legally own a silencer, a full-auto weapon, and other fun stuff. I'm just not that into it.

I have gotten a little freaked out about my worries that people I've offended might try to take revenge. I've kept my S&W .40 pistol near me at night, and it's a great security blanket. I've considered getting a concealed-carry permit, but haven't bothered to make the effort. Oddly, I don't worry much when I'm not at home. It's not an entirely irrational fear, as the local gangs have taken up home invasion here. Fortunately, I think the early adopters have all been caught by the police and the idea may have been nipped in the bud. Great to see the cops doing a good job on this!

I lived two doors down from a man who had a gun collection. He had rifles and a couple of machine guns. They were fun to look at. Very cool.

I've always been a gun enthusiast. I don't carry, but my wife has a carry permit, and I might apply for one if I get around to it.

As far as my guns, I mainly am a Colt fan. I have a very rare Colt Walker, which is a black powder cap & ball revolver. I have several versions of the mid and late 1800s models of the SAA .45 revolver, and a very early model 1911 .32 auto. I have other guns, but prefer to keep quiet over the internet. IF I have an assault rifle, and I'm not saying I do or don't, but if so it would be a Colt-built AR series.

Nah, that's a 5.56mm, really just a moderately fast .22, and those really don't kick at all.

Also, a silencer in and of itself does not reduce the velocity of a bullet, though some integrally suppressed weapons do have ports in the barrel to bleed off some of the expanding gas to render the round subsonic. All that a suppressor does is to trap and redirect the explosive gases produced by the cartridge, exactly the same way that a car muffler works; they were even invented by the same guy. Depending upon the caliber and the specific design, a suppressed weapon tends to sound a lot like a nail-gun, not silent per se, but less sharp and not so unambiguously a gunshot. Some .22lr suppressors can actually be quiet enough to hear the firing pin click if they're on a bolt action, but those tend to be fairly bulky, and the round is low powered.

FN-FAL was used by Belgian troops until the late 70's when they changed over to the FNC which fire the 5.56x45mm(now they are planing to replace the FNC with the FNF2000)

FN FAL was used by a ton of country, UK, Canada, Australia, Israel etc. And was western equivalent of the AK-47(FN-FAL was more powerful then the AK-47 as it used a 7.62x51mm round where as the AK-47 used 7.62x39mm), FN-FALs and with 7.62 assault rifles where replace by 5.56mm assault rifles and the Russians made a similar change as well by switching to the AK-74 using a 5.45x39mm round(still less powerful then the 5.56mm)

they are such a pleasure to shoot, the danish royal guards use them, our main military are now using different versions of the m4.

we are still using the mg3 variant(modernized) of the well known mg42 from ww2 in some roles as well.

the danish military have open house once a year, it provides one with a very nice look at their procedures and equipment.

i tried both of those weapons at this event, as well as a crash course in battlefield engineering and a quick course in aircraft recognition.
probing for mines is kinda thrilling even when they are duds.

i think they even advertise it in english at the danish army's website.

the mg3 even comes in a variant using a nightvision scope, how to use that equipment to any effect while firing is beyond me
the 7.62 round really is wonderfull at projecting brute force.
