a good example of irony and language is this:
hearing people who pay good money to learn sign langauge so they can communicate with deaf people are taught SEE, which is (signing exact english), but deaf people dont speak SEE, they speak ASL, which is (american sign language). It may not look like it by their titles, but they are very different.
SEE and ASL, first off use different signs for the same word. Secondly. the verb congregation in ASL as well as other basics of the language sentace structure are very different from spoken english which is how SEE is signed.
example if I were to say the boy is behind the tree in, ASL, I would sign, "boy, tree, and then use the behind sign,...behind the tree sign"
However in SEE, I would just sign, the boy is behind the tree.
ASL is a very simple and effient language that only works well because it is a visual language. to give greater expression, one speaking in ASL would not use elaborate words, but would exagerate hand motions during signing as well as exagerating body lanugage and facial expression to the point that most aspies couldn't miss it.
however, ASL has a somewhat limited voculary, and what words that are not offical signs are finger spelled using alphebetical sign spelling the word out...after that...if the word is to be used again in the same conversation...a temperary sign is given to it.
Also alot of spoken words are omited like some adjetives, pronowns, and many other words used in the engish language to make commication smoother like "the" "is" "there" and mostly anything but what is bare essentals in getting the point made.
Words that make spoken lanuage flow, actually muddy up the works in a visual language.
The irony is even better stated in this:
If a deaf person signs using SEE, they are often teased and sometimes alienated for using "hearing sign"
that is irony.
Irony is hard to explain...kinda intangable but I will try
Irony is when something you asume to be true is actauly quite the opposite
I always say that truth is ironic
but that is a short lesson in irony.
