I love cats, because you have to make an effort to get to know them, but if you do it's very rewarding. I like the fact that they're always their own boss.
Not so keen on them killing birds and small mammals though - it's handy if you have mice trying to set up home in your house, but in general it's a bit grim.
Still wish I could have a cat though. I live in a 2nd floor flat at the moment and it's just not possible. My Dad has two and they're great - a big tabby cat called Chip and a graceful black cat called Haggis. The only time Haggis ever meows is when I arrive back at Dad's place and he sees me for the first time in a while.
There is also a black and white cat which lives downstairs here, she recognises me now and always says hello. She's a soft cat - I can stroke her belly, her nose and the pads of her feet without fear of retribution
