I haven't been on a train for 3 years, but before that I used to travel on them very frequently. My favourite line is the Settle to Carlisle line which passes through some beautiful countryside in the north of England.

I got hooked on train travel as a university student in England. Whenever I could scrape the money together I would travel down to London, if only for a few hours. After returning to this US I went back to planes, but as airline service deteriorated, I decided to try trains again. Despite the fact that Amtrak is always late, I've adopted it as my exclusive form of travel. I especially like booking a compartment, which allows you to travel entirely alone, except for meals, and has a slightly decadent and nostalgic feel to it.

I've only taken the train once, I think I'd have loved it, if not for the fact there are so many problems with the rail service...

I went from Milton Keynes to Newcastle - first train was an hour late and once upon the train there was no air conditioning and I had to stand in the section between the carriages, then I had to get off in a busy station to transfer and I was hugely confused and anxious about where to go and what train to get on (I got on the right one).

The second train I transferred onto was stuck because there were problems with the signals - it took us about an hour just to pull out of the station, again no air conditioning but at least I had a seat, then we kept stopping time and time again (by this time I was very anxious, thirsty and needed to pee but I was too scared to use the bathrooms or try to find the carriage where I could get a drink). We got to the next station and again we were stuck for about an hour, some staff suggested I wait for the next train which may be quicker - I got off, felt anxious for a while, but got the next train and it was quicker even if it did still keep stopping.

By the time I got home (11 hours later) the train station was closed and I had to get a taxi...only with no battery left on my phone I had to risk getting a taxi off the street which also cost a fortune...I got home about 1am, and had to be up for work at 5am. I got some money back but just a fraction of what was paid that day to get me home, and it was in rail vouchers - even if I hadn't sworn never to travel by train again, I had no use for these and they couldn't be sold.

Yes, only in Europe though - it was fun!

Trains in the USA are too awkward to use, except on the east coast.

I've traveled by train to Shannon Falls on the Royal Hudson in the summer of 2000. I had a lot of fun. :)

I would also love to do this travel, but i am not sure i would go with some of my issues. It would be fun to try though.

I love traveling by train and do it quite often on the suburban trains. lately about once a week to see Kelamin. I tend to do the overland from adelaide to melbourne a few times a year. The longest trip on the train was 4 days on the overland from Perth to melbourne. My next trip i want to do is the Ghan from Adelaide to Darwin return which was a 6 day trip.

I love being on a train. Because of the sounds, the motion and the silent atmosphere.
I traveled from Denmark to Italy in train which is about 2000km and I don't know what that is in miles :/

Lace-Bane rode a train for the first time in a very long time fairly recently... but to be honest, he didn't pay much attention to the train ride >_>

So Lace-Bane doesn't know what to vote :?

I went on the Trans-Mongolian (similar to Trans-Siberian but goes down to Mongolia rather than Vladivostok) a few years ago and it was amazing! I would love to do some of thoose rail journeys in Australia you mentioned.

Yes I have, twice in the USA. I like how they play new release movies every night but I do not like their food but their breakfast is fine. They also have the kiddy car where they play cartoons and have toys and activities in there for kids up to age 12. But sadly they don't have showers.

I have traveled to Paris from London and from there to back but it was only a four hour train ride. It wasn't anything like Amtrak.

Yes, many times - usually commuting. I like trains, for longer journeys (more than half an hour) I prefer them to buses or cars.
