I wait at busy streets, or downtown. I really hate to see people leading their young kids out through traffic, 15 yards from a crosswalk.

15 yards away? I'll go to the crosswalk. If I'm in the middle of a block, I'll jaywalk. But I wouldn't jaywalk with kids at all, unless there was no traffic whatsoever.

I do on rural roads, but not on major streets. The reason is that Las Vegas is a notoriously dangerous city for pedestrians and one consequence of that is that jaywalking carries a $350 fine. So unless I am completely sure there are no police cars nearby, I don't risk it. Which I suppose means the law is working.

I suppose you could *almost* call where I live a rural place. :P Compared to Las Vegas, anyway. So jaywalking doesn't really make a difference, generally, anyway.

I certainly wouldn't reckessly run out on the busy street of a big city. >_> Even if I'd want to die, I wouldn't attempt it that way; could just land you in ten years of coma, or a broken neck, and you could even harm the driver... mentally, anyway.

I'm a little confused about the message. Don't jaywalk, but if you do, watch your step?

And if I'm going to jaywalk, I'll make sure to do it far enough away from any cars that they won't hit me if I do trip.

You just made my day with that KMFDM reference.

Nope. Although sometimes it can be encouraging knowing that I can shave off a few seconds by walking directly to point B instead of going to the nearest intersection.

No, I can't stand when people do that. I especially hate when they run across the street at the very last minute or they walk slowly when cars are already coming. I just drive faster to scare them away.

I think I jaywalk about 75% of the time I cross a street. I've even crossed the street right behind a police car stopped at a light. They don't care at all.

I only do it when there are no cars coming, (I mean when they are not close up where they are going to have to slow down). I do it when I have time to cross without cars having to slow down. It's so easy to do at night because there are hardly any cars. I have even walked when the sign said don't walk but I had time to cross and there were no cars up close.

I hear it's only jay walking if you cause traffic to stop so you can jaywalk at the crosswalk. In Oregon you are required to stop when a pedestrian wants to cross unless you have a green light. But I hate it when people try and cross busy streets. It's jay walking because I slow down when I see them so they are jaywalking.
