I feel sorry for him, since he seemed sincere in his words. I guess he got what he deserved, since it's against the law, but lots of laws are based on arbitrary decisions and I'm really not one to care for laws, but that doesn't mean I don't have morals, nor want to get locked up in jail. :P

A lot of laws are arbitrary, but that one is not. Really? You want people having sex with minors, that is wrong..doesn't matter if you don't have morals or not, it is a good law.

Who's to say that every single person under the age of 18 doesn't have the moral authority to decide that they want to have sex?

Because, it's not just about morals:
Teenagers are not fully developed in their mind
Their parents are still likely supporting them, and they are responsible for their health and well-being
They cannot handle the consequences of pregnancy, cervical cancer, stds, and ect as well as an adult

The point was made many a time that he was a journalist.

I know that now, but I did not realize that when I was first watching.

I'm going to have to agree with dunbots on this. Biologically, there's nothing wrong with it, it is society that makes us believe there is.

This is the biggest fallacy in your argument. There is nothing that magically changes from the last minute of your 17th birthday to the first minute of your 18th, where it suddenly becomes legal, it's just an arbitrary law, made who knows why.

Agreed - and in any case in the UK it's 16, not 18.
Does that make us somehow more immoral? No, it's just a different arbitrary age.

age of consent in most parts of the world is 15 or 16..... and some places even 14...

so, most people around the world regard teenagers at that age capable of making an informed decision...

whom to belief? a minority who thinks 18?

the last registered age og consent in the vatican was 12..... (although they now follow italian law... and regard 14 as the age of consent)

here in denmark it is 15...

The same can be said for lots of 18year-olds & people in their early 20s but it's not illegal for someone in their 40s to be with 18year-old so these laws seem extremely arbitrary to me

I voted for "I feel sorry for him; he does not deserve what he got" for a few rezones. The 1st one being that I think that show violated his privacy. I don't think that "journalist" had a rite to film him or anyone like that & put it on TV or anything without their permission. I also don't know the history of Rich's conversations with that girl. Maybe she asked for pix of him or she voluntarily sent pix to him 1st or she wanted to meet up with him; we do NOT know the history of it. I also kind of feel for the guy because I was close to a girl online who was about 5 & a half years younger than me when I was about 20 & we talked about sex a lot at times but it was NOT a sexual thing for me. I've also known more than a few people online years ago who might would of been considered pedophiles(we had some similar interest; I like listening to teen pop singers & they liked watching their vids; I like watching movies those teen idols were in because of the plots & they liked em because they liked looking at the girls; I also had an offensive sense of humor that they appreciated) & some of those pervs had met up with underaged girls online but alot of em were not really bad or dangerous people; they did not rape, pressure or manipulate/trick; it was a consensual thing & lots of those girls were probably doing it with other guys anyways. It may of been something like that with Rich

But at least there is a mark, imagine if there was a test everyone had to take when they turned 18 to prove that they were readily able to take the responsibilities for their actions...it's the best way because the majority of kida move out and get a job/ or go to college when they turn 18....signifying growing up

That is kinda true about the privacy...he should have refused to say anything without a lawyer though. mean come on, know your rights.

Ok, she might have been asking. But if a little kid starts asking for drugs, is it ok....they were the one who came to the drug-dealer....nevermind that they might not know what they are asking for.
