So maybe it all comes down to the idea that success in others forces us to acknowledge our own failures, and that some folks just do not like confronting their own failures.

Does this mean that the next time the bosses want to give me an award, I should turn it down or just keep the news to myself?

I find it's a good idea to try and boost my peers in some way, then they will be less resentful.

I think it's very important not to come over like you're a big shot, or hot s**t or whatever. Not that I assume you are. Being modest, and definitely not self aggrandizing. I usually either play things down when I've done well, or I acknowledge it with a matter of factness. Maybe it's tempting to really milk success, specially if you're not used to it.

I had/have problems being humble, especially as a kid.

I think if you can somehow reframe your own success as a group success, then there's less resentfulness. Share it somehow...

What do I know though, I'm some kind of useless communist

I think folks with autism will find it harder to be successful without ruffling feathers. Ruffling feathers comes with the territory. Of autism and success...

Just a few thoughts really.

Dear Fnord, Your accomplishments should have brought you pride and happiness and, from others, sincere congratulations; instead, you are getting ATTITUDE? Might I humbly suggest a tactful reply, when next you get some lip, something like" I'd always thought that if I worked in a daycare center, I'd be taking care of the children...instead I find that they are my co-workers"...Sylkat

I prefer to just shrug my shoulders, smile, and walk away.

Unfortunately, this seems to infuriate them even more.

Oh boy, you ain't kidding.

More than once after I realized I had been too blunt I tried to salvage the situation by saying "it's OK, I'm the designated a$$hole" or some variation thereupon.

Ironically, I never had any problems in my Wall Street days because everyone is an a$$hole there...

Sometimes those in the former group simply haven't adjusted their world view yet.

I watched a particularly interesting movie last night outlining the life of someone in this sort of position. It's true that some may just be envious, but there are many people that are, for whatever reason, stuck in the former ways of thinking and are just incapable of comprehending exactly what the latter has accomplished.

That's not to say they will forever remain incapable. Often times, this is simply a matter of maturity. As we all know, some people just never mature.
