This thread got into my dream last night. I set a rat trap in some holes I dug in the
woods and I checked them and saw a big spider I was just sure you would love to see.
Too bad it was just my neurons firing.

I have a Pet Monster. His name is Ken Livingstone. I have him locked up in my parents' basement, and I'm feeding him dog food, until he promises to save the Routemaster.

Spiders+Cyrus1874 = hysterical aspie and one gooey mess. I can't stand spiders. I can watch it on youtube but not in person.

Yeah cyrus 1874, I did that once. Mea Culpa, Miss Medusa, I once dispatched one of these lovely beasties to the great jungle in the sky. I was only twelve, had never seen one, and freaked. Can you forgive me? (I luv yer Avatar, BTW.)

I ran into a tarantula on a trail out in the desert once. I had to laugh at myself because I stayed fifteen feet away and walked in a big circle around it, knowing the thing wouldn't hurt me unless I picked it up and squeezed it. I would have given less distance to a rattlesnake, but it just looked so scary.

HAHAHA... Aaaaawesome!

I think I grossed out a bunch of middle-aged women today with my incessant chatter about Phobetor... I was outside at work having a smoke with a work acquaintance, and I was going on about the spider... to her. She wasn't freaked; in fact, she'd had one once. So I was even more enthusiastic! She'd understand what I was talking about!

Anyway, I turned around and all the ladies had this scrunched-up look on their faces, noses wrinkled, and I heard snippets of conversation, all about spiders and how "gross" they are. Zif! flies are gross, maggots are gross, earthworms are kinda gross (but they kinda smell good too in a way...) but spiders are fascinating! Awesome!

Once when we were kids, my sister made the mistake of calling a spider an insect. I turned to her and said, "Thet're NOT insects! they're ARACHNIDS!" She was only about 4 or 5 and I was 8 or 9... My mom makes fun of me for that to this day cuz my uncle got it on video...

When i find spiders inside i try to catch them and put them outside. But i'm still scared of them

I have a lot of anxiety around spiders, for some reason. I love to watch them, but I don't want to cuddle much with them. Cool 'pet' if you can deal with them.

One of my most photographed obsessions is spiders, in general, but focussing on their various eating procedures. I have several macro series of a jumping spider harvesting his lunch. A little half inch spider will watch a fly moving around the room, incessantly, until it gets close enough. At the moment of truth, those spiders can jump over eighteen inches into the air and wrestle down a super-fast fly as big as they are, control the catch and drag it into the shadows for a feast.

BTW, why do some of them have an odd number of eyes?

I have many, many, many of these pretty ladies in my garden.

I have a pet dragon. The local's don't like what she's been doing to the local sheep population. They should at least be happy THEY aren't getting eaten. You have no idea how hard it was to train her to stop eating peasents. Almost had a knight sent after her!

They're considering it again. I think I may just have to buy my own flock of sheep.

What a beautiful specimen, and wow! Nice PIC. Please post more! Or do you have a website? Here's one I took of a common spider in our house... If you can capture them, you can usually throw them downward and they will hang by a web from your hand...



It's not a great image, the quality is poor and it's blurry... I'd like to get a digital SLR someday. *sighs*

True tarantulas are spiders belonging to the family Theraphosidae (Greek for thera "wild animal, beast" + phos "light"). The family Theraphosidae includes over 800 different species of tarantulas, divided over 12 subfamilies (formerly 13) and 113 genera.

Wow, that's a lot of variety ! !! The little buggers come in every size and shape yew could want ! !!
