As far as spam goes, I've never tried any of the good flavors. Honestly real Spam is much too money for me, so I eat knockoff "Hartford House" generic Spam, for $1 a can. I can't eat any of it fried. Real spam is much better, usually if I buy real Spam, I buy turkey to be slightly health conscious, but the knockoff Spam tastes pretty reasonable fried, though.

I can only eat Spam fried, though, right out of the can it's icky, but fried, Spam and eggs, can't go wrong.

I prefer the thin sliced sandwich bologna for frying. I cut an X in the middle of it and it does bubble up, but I press it down with a spatula. I like mine brown too, otherwise you might as well just put it in the microwave.

I also prefer hot dogs fried and browned rather than microwaved or boiled. They are too rubbery that way. My favorite hot dog was one called "Wranglers" that I used to eat when I was about 14. I've heard they still make it, but I can't find it anywhere. It's like a sausage dog, but better. I like to split them horizontaly and open them up and lay them face down and fry them until brown, then turn them over and fry the other side the same way. Mmmmmmm.

As for Spam, if you have a Dollar General near you, that's where I buy Treet, the semi-name brand Spam. It's more expensive in the grocery store, but only $1 at the dollar store. It was made to be a competetor to Spam. It's not as dry.

What about Underwood deviled ham or roast beef? It's great on Ritz crackers or even saltines.

They are all equally disgusting and I hope I never have to resort to eating any of them.

I've never had spam.

Although I now want to try a few of the flavours I have seen in this thread.

I don't know, I prefer Spam's dryness, the knockoff I buy is a lot more fatty. It's this company, I eat their corned beef hash, too, it's...edible. Actually, it tastes quite good fried with a lot of hot sauce on it, along with black pepper and Adobo.

And man, this blogger here has never been poor before, wow...

You can make Spam look really sophisticated, too, check this:

Spam is actually really popular in Hawaii, too. I've heard it's good in fried rice, I don't doubt that at all.

The smell keeps me away from it but I would probably like it cooked.

LOL! I don't eat them because I have to and it's certainly not a last resort for me, while it may be for some people. I grew up eating it because it's just a common food around here. A lot of people down here like it. My daughters fiance loves spam and he buys several cans of it and keeps it hidden in their room because if he doesn't, and he puts it in the cabinet up here, somebody will surely eat it. When I buy it at the grocery store it's gone within two days. Lots of places down here have fried spam on their breakfast menu along with fried bologna. Fried bologna sandwich is also on the lunch menu in some of the small diners too. Some people just like it.

I feel like you do in the quote about other foods though. Chitlins in particular. I've never had them and don't ever want to eat them, but in many black owned "soul food" restaurants down here, chitlins are on the menu. I used to get bbq at this great place in Bham. It was a small hole in the wall place over by Legion Field and it had been there forever. It was also very, very popular. People came from all over town to get food there. It was just a mom and pop place in the low rent dangerous side of town. They sold pig ear sandwiches on white bread as well as bbq. I'd see men there ordering those to go, dressed for business and obviously from downtown, with money to buy something more expensive, but that's what they wanted. So, what's disgusting to some is a treat for someone else.
