I know there are theories that dreams, nightmares, etc, different scenarios, are analogous to simulations used to prepare the consciousness for major shocks or unconventional events (among other uses). It could be that what seems to be prophecy was just something the subconscious deemed inevitable based on the data available to it and thus ran a "simulation program"

Yes "prophetic dreams" does seem to be common among people in military. Like leaving the tent & finding out later the enemy put swords through the place he was sleeping & a lot of battle plans.

Where are you people getting this paranormal crap, and why are you not providing any relevant links?

Now, if you really think that there is any validity to this telepathy hokum, then please indulge yourselves in my 25-year old challenge...

"What Is In The Box?"

Just click on the above link, read the post, follow the instructions, and PM your answers - it is just that simple!

I'll be waiting.

Fnord we are not talking about "paranormal crap".

Quote:
You may use telepathy to read my mind, precognition to predict what the information will be when I check to see that everything is the way I left it, or a spirit guide to tell you what it knows, et cetera. You may also use tarot cards, crystal balls, Ouija boards, or whatever other paranormal focus you need to perform the task.

This is a totaly different thing. That your asking about. That any of us after you said your bit about evidence before.

( Like when someone decides not to get on a plane & it crashes & they take a train instead. Or contact someone because they get a need to call them as they think something bad has happened & "prophetic dreams" as me and Vigilans is talking about the subconscious deemed inevitable based on the data available to it & thus ran a "simulation program" ). Not really talking about reading someones mind at this point or any of the other stuff your asking about. )

& by the way the "Ouija boards" was originaly invented as a game. So whys that there anyway. should be you can't use it. & ost of the other stuff is about cold reading.

edit:-
( & if you come back with show proof , I will shut you down with "believe does not require proof, you have to prove it does not exist. But since you can't measure it you can't prove that nothing is there. On what we are talking about )

Telepathy is supposedly direct communication from one mind to another. You can either do it or not. I'm betting on the "not".

You do seem to be adept at making excuses, however.

I agree with you, maybe we should take this out of this post really. We not really talking about "telepathy" really, as your correct it would be direct communication from one mind to another.

If someone can tell me exactly what I am thinking about right now, I will completely dismiss all my doubts about the existence of telepathy and tell everyone I know that it's real :P

I'm not going to do some stupid test! I have EXPERIENCED precognition before and I KNOW it was real becasue the stuff came true. If you never had a language delay don't talk about the non-talkers like that. Just because you can't f*****g measure something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Should I say all your precious little theories like the Hison-Biggs feild is 'crap' because it can't be measured? The things have been observed and you people insult me and others who have experienced things that can't be explained with your stupid tools and various meters. Any evidence is 'faked' because you don't want to be wrong. That kind of crap is why I want my diagnosis changed to HFA instead of Asperger's.

But if you offer people one million dollar for demonstrating telepathic or otherwise paranormal abilities and nobody manages to do that, you can reasonably conclude that there are no people with telepathic powers.

That's exactly what the James Randi Educational Foundation has done. Originally, they offered $10,000 in 1964 and kept rising the prize money until it reached $1 million in 1996. Randi's million dollar challenge continues until today, and none of the 948 mediums, mentalists, cold readers, aura readers etc. who have participated so far have managed to demonstrate anything out of the ordinary. They all turned out to be frauds.

And no, Randi and his team didn't attempt to measure any kind of psychic energy or whatever. They simply asked the applicants to demonstrate their power in a test environment. People who claimed to have the ability to read auras were asked to diagnose a number of sick people. Mediums were given a number of diaries and asked to tell details about the owner after touching them. People with alleged telekinetic powers had to move a key on a string with their mind, and so on. All tests were completely fair and had measurable outcomes, all applicants agreed to the test conditions and claimed to be able to do what they were asked to do, and all of them failed.

There have been many other attempts to demonstrate psychic abilities in controlled test environments, which have provided us with an insurmountable amount of evidence that psychic or paranormal abilities don't exist. There is not a single shred of verifiable evidence to the contrary.

Oh. You're not taking this seriously. That's okay - no one should take claims of telepathy seriously, either.

True, but being unable to measure something does mean that any claims for that something to exist will be met with skepticism and doubt - at least, until such evidence is produced. Experience proves nothing. Belief proves nothing.

Reports of subjective experiences are especially prone to this flaw. You can claim to have experienced anything you can imagine, but without evidence to back up your claim, the best you can hope for is a Hugo Award for your story.

As for the Higgs Boson, there is at least pre-existing mathematical evidence that it should exist.

There is no similar mathematical evidence for telepathy, or any other alleged "Psychic" ability.

JuggaspieZ2k, watch your language and please keep it civil.

Fnord, this is getting old. if you don't agree with it, fine. but there is no excuse to taunt and belittle people just because you don't agree with their views. please be respectful.

thank you.
